The following is the Director’s Report for March 2021.
Development Update
The following are updates on a number of active commercial, industrial, and multi-family
residential projects:
• ETS Performance South Metro held a ribbon cutting on January 25th at 21017 Heron
Way, Suite 101. The business recently expanded into the new space from its previous
location at 21021 Heron Way.
• Red’s Savoy Pizza held a ribbon cutting event on February 9th and opened to the public
on February 10th at 17450 Kenwood Trail, formerly a Caribou Coffee.
• A groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 4th to celebrate construction
commencing on the new Keokuk Liquor Store. The new 20,000-square -foot building will
house the City’s fourth liquor store and an event space/tasting room.
• Arris Apartments was recently issued a building permit and has started construction.
The 197-unit market-rate apartment building will be located at 10805 173rd Street, just
south of Fleet Farm.
• Summit Orthopedics is working with city staff to bring a location to Lakeville. A 25,660-
square-foot building is proposed at 17210 Kenyon Avenue, near Holiday gas station and
Perkins.
• Construction continues on the new 750,000-square-foot Amazon office and distribution
center building. The property is located south of 217th Street and west of Dodd
Boulevard (CSAH 9) – south of QA1. The new Amazon facility is valued at $45 million,
will bring 100-200 jobs to Lakeville and is anticipated to open in Fall 2021.
• Springs at Lakeville, the 260 market-rate rental townhome-style apartments at the
northwest corner of Cedar Avenue and Dodd Boulevard, is nearly complete and is
already partially occupied.
• Construction continues on FedEx Freight’s 88,255-square-foot addition to the
maintenance and warehouse buildings. FedEx Freight is located at 9331 217th Street at
the southeast quadrant of 215th Street (CSAH 70) and Dodd Boulevard (CSAH 9).
• Superior Decks & Railings continues construction of its 62,000-square-foot building to
be located at 7776 Lakeville Boulevard. The business designs and manufactures
aluminum decks, railings and fences.
Building Permit Report
The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $47,314,159 through February.
This compares to a total valuation of $29,035,977 for building permits issued through February
of 2020.
The City issued permits for 101 single-family homes through February with a total valuation of
$32,494,000. This compares to 68 single-family home permits through February of 2020 with a
total valuation of $20,827,000.
The City has also issued 14 townhome permits with a total valuation of $3,155,000 through
February, compared to 11 townhome permits with a total valuation of $2,507,000 during the
same period in 2020.
Lakeville has issued the highest number of residential permits year-to-date in the Twin Cities
followed by Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Hugo and Otsego.
Additional Highlights
The State of the Business Community luncheon was held at Brackett’s Crossing Country Club
on Thursday, March 18 and approximately 85 people attended. During the presentation Mayor
Anderson and I provided information on Lakeville's commercial and industrial development in
2020 and insight on what to expect for development in 2021.
