RESOLUTION NO. 21-36
APPROVAL OF APPLICATION SUBMITTAL FOR COMMUNITY PROJECT FUNDING
PROGRAM 2022 FEDERAL FUNDING PROCESS
WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and
Infrastructure is requesting project submittals for federal funding for Fiscal Year 2022 under the
Community Project Funding Program through the 2021 Surface Transportation Authorization
Legislation; and
WHEREAS, federal funds can be used for up to 80% of project costs and non-federal funds must
be at least 20% of the project costs; and
WHEREAS, the reconstruction of the Interstate 35 and County State Aid Highway 50
Interchange is the City of Lakeville's top transportation priority and is included in the City of
Lakeville's adopted 2021 Legislative Priorities; and
WHEREAS, safety and mobility improvements along the Interstate 35 corridor, including the
modernization of the County State Aid Highway 50 Interchange, is a priority project of the
multi -jurisdictional Interstate 35W Solutions Alliance; and
WHEREAS, constructing additional freight rail car storage is a top City of Lakeville
transportation priority and included in the City of Lakeville's adopted 2021 Legislative Priorities;
and
WHEREAS, improvements to freight rail service strengthen the efficient movement of goods
throughout the state, enhances safety and directly supports transportation activities on the trunk
highway system; and
WHEREAS, all projects proposed are consistent with the adopted City of Lakeville 2021
Legislative Priorities; and
WHEREAS, all projects proposed are consistent with the adopted City of Lakeville
Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, federal funding of these projects reduces the burden on local taxpayers for regional
infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, project submittals are due on April 16, 2021; and
WHEREAS, subject to federal funding award, the Lakeville City Council would be asked to
consider authorization to execute an agreement at a future meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Lakeville City Council hereby approves the
following City -led projects for submittal to the United States House of Representatives
Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for federal funding and is committed to
provide the funding to be obligated within the time period set forth under statutory and federal
requirements:
1. Interstate 35 and County State Aid Highway 50 Interchange Reconstruction
2. Lakeville Industrial Parks Freight Rail Car Storage Expansion
