HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-28-92 TO: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION FROM: MICHAEL SOBOTA, DIRECTOR COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DE PMENT DATE: JULY 24, 1992 RE: CANCELLATION OF JULY 28,1992 EDC MEETING The July 28th meeting will be cancelled. Staff has been conducting research on the Airlake storm water project as directed by the EDC at your last meeting. This research will take additional time and review. Many of you will be attending the "Night on the River" Thursday, July 30th. Mayor Zaun has indicated that any of you that would like to car-pool to the event should meet at City Hall at 4:30 p.m. I have a special Planning Commission meeting that night and will be' unable to attend. This is a brief update on other economic development activities: The Imperial Plastics e~ansion and tax increment project was tabled by the City Council at the request of Mr. John Gambell, President of Imperial Plastics. Mr. • Gambell has switched financial institutions and is awaiting final approval from the SBA on his financing package. When that package is complete, the City will reconsider the project. Mr. Gambell anticipates that by early September. Staff has been working with Goodyear on the location of a new auto service facility at 173rd Street and Junnelle. Site plan issues are in the process of being resolved. We anticipate action during the month of August. The Minnesota Real Estate Journal did a feature on the Lakeville/Fazmington area. Staff provided substantial information to them. I feel they did an excellent job on representing the community. In the packet of information enclosed, you will find a letter from Joni Hubred of the Lakeville Life and Times regarding this article. Economic Development Department Intern, Carol Graff, has been busy her first two weeks on the job. She has conducted a visit at Crown Cork and Seal and has been working diligently on the Airlake storm management project. She is also assembling packets of information for light industrial and retail/service businesses. The available buildings file has also been partially updated. It is a real pleasure to have Carol working on our team also. Enclosed are other materials that would be of interest to you. Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call. • MS/mh cc: Robert Erickson, City Administrator Carol Graff, Economic Development Department Intern
