Subject: December Director’s Report
The following is the Director’s Report for December 2021.
Development Update
The following are updates on a number of active commercial, industrial, and multi-family
residential projects.
• The Lakeville Chamber of Commerce has hosted a number of ribbon cuttings in
November and early December including Compcare Urgent Care (7560 160th Street W),
Wildflower Quilt Company (17775 Juniper Path), Alex Allen Agency – Farmer’s Insurance
(17595 Kenwood Trail, Suite 210), Any Lab Test Now (20200 Heritage Drive) and
Labyrinth Puzzle Rooms (20730 Holyoke Avenue).
• During the December 6th meeting, the City Council approved an interim use permit for
Boise Building Solutions, located at 8714 215th Street, to expand its outdoor storage
area onto approximately 13 acres of adjacent property owned by the Metropolitan
Airport Commission.
• Aloft Aviation was issued a shell building permit in November for the new hangar
planned at A2 Hawker Lane.
• Lakeville Brewing Company was issued a building permit in late October for a cooler
addition and expanded outdoor patio.
• Uponor’s 57,000-square-foot addition is under construction. The business is located at
21900 Dodd Blvd.
• Hearth & Home Technologies’ office/warehouse tenant finish at 22160 Cedar Avenue is
under construction. The other portion of this Launch Park building is occupied by Sweet
Harvest Foods.
• Most of the work on the County Road 70 expansion project is complete for this
construction season. Minor work off the roadway may occur during the winter months.
Other remaining construction activities will resume in Spring 2022.
• Tires Plus has completed construction of its new 6,262-square-foot minor auto repair
service facility in Heritage Commons at 20170 Iberia Avenue and is currently hiring.
• Old Dominion Freight Line‘s new building is under construction. The 43,300-square-foot
truck terminal is located east of Cedar Avenue and north of 222nd Street W at 22050
Garvey Lane.
• Raising Cane’s is currently constructing its 3,700-square-foot restaurant with drive-thru
service, located near Target on the vacant lot near I-35 and north of 185th Street.
• The Outdoor GreatRoom Company (OGC) will soon occupy 94,500 square feet in the
new Scannell spec building located at 9583 217th Street, just north of Schneiderman’s
Distribution Center at the southwest corner of CSAH 70 and Dodd Blvd. OGC was
approved for a $160,000 MN DEED Job Creation Fund (JCF) grant and will bring 50
existing jobs to Lakeville’s industrial park.
• Summit Orthopedics’ construction is nearly complete on its 25,660-square-foot
building. The new medical office is located at 17210 Kenyon Avenue and is currently
hiring with plans to open in early 2022.
Building Permit Report
The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $327,568,635 through November.
This compares to a total valuation of $371,927,908 for building permits issued through
November of 2020.
The City issued permits for 475 single-family homes through November with a total valuation
of $145,187,000. This compares to 579 single-family home permits through November of 2020
with a total valuation of $171,785,000.
The City has also issued 175 townhome permits with a total valuation of $37,369,000 through
November, compared to 143 townhome permits with a total valuation of $27,571,000 during
the same period in 2020.
The City has issued 11 apartment permits with a combined total of 390 units at a valuation of
$56,006,000 through November. This compares to eight apartment permits with a combined
total of 200 units at a valuation of $27,833,000 through the same period in 2020.
Lakeville has issued the highest number of residential permits year-to-date in the Twin Cities
followed by Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Otsego and Blaine.
Additional Highlights
Krista Jech, President of the Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce was recently recognized as
the Mark McAfee Friend of Workforce Development Award winner during the Dakota-Scott
Workforce Development Board Legislative and Employer Awards event on December 10th.
