The following is the Director’s Report for January 2022.
Development Update
The following are updates on a number of active commercial, industrial, and multi-family
residential projects.
• The Lakeville Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at
Space4Work on January 13th. The new co-working space is in the former Old National
Bank building at 9202 202nd Street W #101 - in the same building where Loeffler
Construction & Consulting has moved its office.
• Mainstreet Coffee & Wine Bar recently changed its name to Tapestry Coffee. A
rebranding celebration was held on January 15.
• The Better Half restaurant is currently under construction in the tenant space next to
Angry Inch Brewing. The owners (who also own B-52 Burgers and Brew) anticipate
opening in March 2022 and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
• During the January 18th meeting, the City Council approved an interim use permit for
Dick’s Sanitation, located at 8984 215th Street W, to expand its accessory outdoor
storage area onto approximately 5.5 acres of adjacent property owned by the
Metropolitan Airport Commission.
• Summit Orthopedics started seeing patients at its new Lakeville location in January
2022. The new medical office can be found at 17210 Kenyon Avenue.
• Multi-family residential construction continues on Arris Apartments (197-unit market
rate apartment, south of Fleet Farm), Northlake Lofts (208-unit market rate apartment,
near the former Best Buy) and has begun on The Pillars of Lakeville (100-unit senior
housing facility, near Crossroads Church). The City Council recently approved a rezoning
and Comprehensive Plan amendment for Ebenezer Estoria, a proposed 80-unit senior
co-op building to be located east of the Fountains of Hosanna.
• Old Dominion Freight Line‘s new building is anticipated to complete construction soon.
The 43,300-square-foot truck terminal is located east of Cedar Avenue and north of
222nd Street W at 22050 Garvey Lane.
• Raising Cane’s continues construction on its 3,700-square-foot restaurant with drive-
thru service, located near Target on the vacant lot near I-35 and north of 185th Street.
• The Outdoor GreatRoom Company has moved into the new Scannell spec building
located at 9583 217th Street, just north of Schneiderman’s Distribution Center.
• Several new proposed industrial park projects are currently in the discussion phase with
city staff. Applications for those developments are anticipated to be submitted
sometime in 2022.
Building Permit Report
The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $371,760,897 through December.
This compares to a total valuation of $442,292,572 for building permits issued through
December of 2020.
The City issued permits for 527 single-family homes through December with a total valuation
of $160,599,000. This compares to 639 single-family home permits through December of 2020
with a total valuation of $188,560,000.
The City has also issued 209 townhome permits with a total valuation of $44,820,000 through
December, compared to 176 townhome permits with a total valuation of $34,490,000 during
the same period in 2020.
The City has issued 11 apartment permits with a combined total of 390 units at a valuation of
$56,006,000 through December. This compares to nine apartment permits with a combined
total of 408 units at a valuation of $51,433,000 through the same period in 2020.
Lakeville has issued the highest number of residential permits year-to-date in the Twin Cities
followed by Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Otsego and Blaine.
Additional Highlights
The Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce has partnered with several Dakota County chambers
to host the Real Time Hiring Solutions series in 2022. A total of five sessions will be held in
various Dakota County cities this year (including Lakeville on November 10th) to discuss
workforce solutions. The first session, Hiring Solutions Symposium, was held on January 18th at
Buck Hill in Burnsville.
The TCO Dome at Lakeville North High School has completed construction and is open for
sporting event use starting January 2022.
