Adjourn Youth Advisory Commission Minutes, October 16, 2022 Page 1 CITY OF LAKEVILLE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES OCTOBER 16, 2022 6:30 p.m. City Administrator Miller called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Members Present: Mayor Anderson, Youth Advisory Commission Members: Faisal Ali, Rylee Eykyn, Ella Fowler, Caitlyn Holl, Aaimah, Khawaja, Peyton Knock Swanson, Katherine Krogstad, Iftinta Mohamed, Faadumo Mohamed, Eston Moulder, Ava Nielson, Katie Sheehan Staff Present: Justin Miller, City Administrator; Courtney Miller, Assistant to the City Administrator 1. Mayor’s Welcome Mayor Anderson opened by providing an overview to the City of Lakeville, highlighting Envision Lakeville. He requested that the members read the Envision Lakeville Community Vision Plan before the next meeting. 2. Introductions All members introduced themselves and shared their favorite thing about Lakeville. 3. Review of By-Laws City Administrator Miller provided an overview of the Youth Advisory Commission By-Laws. 4. City Commission Protocols City Administrator Miller explained the City Commission protocols to all the new Youth Advisory Commissioners. 5. Meeting Schedule The Commission agreed to meet the third Sunday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Marion conference room at City Hall. 6. Roundtable-Future Agenda Items o Programs on political, financial, and social media literacy o Expand cultural diversity efforts o Involve youth in citywide efforts and events o Create events or initiatives that are geared toward bringing youth into the community o Attend school group/organization meetings to obtain ideas to bring to the Commission o Involve elementary aged students in Commission discussions and develop efforts to make their voices heard o Programming on social media safety o Initiatives to educate on depression and anxiety o Expand mental health resources o Provide support for non-English speakers and bilingual speakers Youth Advisory Commission Minutes, October 16, 2022 Page 2 o Meet with school board o Develop a New to Lakeville Welcome event o Expand current parks and public facilities and consider making them more accessible o Increase addiction and harm reduction resources for youth 7.
