HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-021 Supporting Corridors of Commerce Application for I-35 and 50 -Lakeville - finalCITY OF LAKEVILLE DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 23- A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AN APPLICATION TO THE CORRIDORS OF COMMERCE PROGRAM FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE INTERSTATE 35 AND DAKOTA COUNTY STATE AID HIGHWAY 50 INTERCHANGE WHEREAS, The Minnesota Department of Transportation is providing funding through the Corridors of Commerce program, and WHEREAS, the funding is intended to provide additional transportation investment in state highways through projects that support creation of additional highway capacity, eliminate congestion, improve the movement of freight, remove barriers to interstate commerce and maximize economic growth and development; and WHEREAS, a total of $250 million is available statewide for projects in the 2022-2023 Corridors of Commerce program; and WHEREAS, Dakota County, in partnership with the City of Lakeville, submitted a project recommendation of the Interstate 35 and County State Aid Highway 50 Interchange Reconstruction for Corridors of Commerce funding; and WHEREAS, Dakota County is requesting $77,485,640 in Corridors of Commerce funding; and WHEREAS, Dakota County secured $5,040,000 in federal funding in the Fiscal Year 2023 federal budget to complete planning, design, and environmental analyses to ensure the project is shovel-ready and support efforts to explore funding options and leverage bonding/grant opportunities at the federal, state, and regional levels; and WHEREAS, to demonstrate the City of Lakeville's support and community consensus for the project, the City is submitting this Resolution of Support; and WHEREAS, this project will strengthen citizens' quality of life, advance public safety initiatives and contribute to the success of local, regional, state and national economy. WHEREAS, this project will provide long-term sustainable travel for all motorists and transit by reducing congestion, improving safety, improving travel times and create a future MnP ASS corridor; and WHEREAS, this project will help to improve highway performance and enhance interstate commerce, of this Tier 1 regional freight corridor, essential to local businesses and the region; and 021 WHEREAS, the current interchange is deficient in capacity and geometry, and a new interchange is necessary to address long-standing traffic congestion and safety concerns. The City has invested or $20M along the CSAH 50 corridor in preparation for this project. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Lakeville hereby supports an application to the Corridors of Commerce program for the reconstruction of the I-35 and Highway 50 Interchange.
