YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
April 16, 2023
6:30 p.m.
Chair Knock Swanson called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Members Present: Youth Advisory Commission Members: Caitlyn Holl, Aaimah Khawaja,
Eston Moulder, Peyton Knock Swanson, Ava Nielson, Katie Sheehan
Members Absent: Faisal Ali, Rylee Eykyn, Ella Fowler, Katherine Krogstad, Iftinta
Mohamed, Faadumo Mohamed
Staff Present: Courtney Miller, Assistant to the City Administrator
Others Present: Councilmember Dan Wolter; Finance Director Jerilyn Erickson
3. Approval of Agenda
Motion by Nielson, second by Moulder to approve the agenda. Motion passed unanimously.
4. Approval of Minutes
Motion by Nielson, second by Khawaja to approve the minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
5. Councilmember Dan Wolter
Councilmember Wolter shared his educational and professional background with the
Commissioners. He discussed his career path as well as his hobbies. He encouraged the
Commissioners to continue on the path of service. He also advised them to be nimble and agile
as they progress through their schooling and careers.
6. Finance Director Jerilyn Erickson
Finance Director Erickson thanked the Commissioners for their role on the Youth Advisory
Commission and for their leadership. She introduced herself and provided an overview of the
Finance Department. She discussed the City’s Finance Committee, to which she is the staff
liaison.
7. Update to the City Council, April 24, 6:30 p.m., Water Treatment Facility
Ms. Miller reminded the Commission that Chair Knock Swanson will be providing an update of
the Youth Advisory Commission to the City Council on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Water
Treatment Facility. She invited all Commissioners to attend.
8. Youth Advisory Commission priority projects
The Commissioners divided into two subcommittees that were established at the December 2022
meeting. One subcommittee continued discussions on mental health awareness and continued
working on the details. They each plan to work on the draft before next month’s meeting.
The other subcommittee continued discussions on creating an online form that other students

could access by scanning a QR code. The form would create an avenue for other students to
contact the Youth Advisory Commission, provide input to it, and subscribe to future updates.
The subcommittee worked on refining the questions.
9. Summer Meeting Schedule
Commissioners discussed their availability during the summer months. The May meeting will be
held as usual at City Hall. It was decided that the June meeting will either be rescheduled or
canceled. The July and August meetings will be held virtually. Regular in-person meetings will
resume in September.
10. Next Meeting Date
The next meeting will be held on May 21, 2023, in the Marion Conference Room at Lakeville
City Hall.
11. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
