Specifically, you requested that the braced wall on the plan North (interior) wall of the garage (Figure 1) be sheathed with gypsum in lieu of the originally specified CS-WSP (plywood) sheathing. Figure 1 It is our general practice to specify CS-WSP for braced walls as it provides a superior finished product both in strength and durability. However, considering the wall is an interior wall it is more protected from disruptive elements such as weathering. The available length along this wall is approximately 24 feet long, which is sufficient for 30 foot spaced (max) bracing lines per 2020 MRC Table R602.10.3(1) and per 2020 MRC Table R602.10.5. As such, the interior portion of the wall indicated walls (not included the short section of the plan northeast bumpout) may be constructed using the GB method per 2020 MRC Table R602.10.4. Gypsum shall be a minimum ½” thickness and be fastened per 2020 MRC Table R602.3(1) (we do not permit the use of staples). If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact Complete Building Solutions at 763-544-3355 or email Rob@CBSmn.com. Regards, Travis Welt, P.E. Total Btu/hr input of all Combustion Appliances in the same CAS (EXCEPT DIRECT VENT) Input: Btu/hr Combustion Air Opening Area (CAOA): Total Btu/hr divided by 3000 Btu/hr per in2 / Btu/hr per in 2 = in2 Step 8: Calculate Minimum CAOA. Minimum CAOA = CAOA multiplied by RF Minimum CAOA = x = in2 Step 9: Calculate Combustion Air Opening Diameter (CAOD) CAOD = 1.13 multiplied by the square root of Minimum CAOA CAOD = 1.13 x Minimum CAOA = in 1If desired, ACH can be determined using ASHRAE calculation or blower door test. Follow procedures in Section 304.
