HomeMy WebLinkAboutLA209064 - Final Retaining Wal Report December 15, 2023 Project VEC 22-194 Mr. Dave Klein Hardscape Construction 1512 East Cliff Road Burnsville, MN 55337 Dear Mr. Klein: Re: Segmental Retaining Wall Observations, Lakeville Health, Lakeville, MN As you requested, Vickery Engineering & Consulting, LLC (VEC) has performed visual observations of the Veteran Pro segmental retaining wall at the referenced site. The site observations were performed after construction. In addition, VEC has reviewed photographs of the wall construction and the testing reports, prepared by American Engineering Testing (AET). Background Information VEC prepared final design and construction drawings for the retaining walls on this project. The plans prepared are titled “Proposed Segmental Retaining Lakeville Medical Office, Dodd Boulevard and Cedar Avenue South, Lakeville, Minnesota", and were dated 7/20/2022 (Revision 1). The project number for the plans was VEC 22-194 Site Observations After construction of the wall, VEC performed observations of the Veteran Pro retaining wall constructed at the site. VEC observed the following: 1) The SRW units were placed in general accordance with the manufacturer’s specification. 2) The walls have positive batter, within 1 to 2 degrees of the design batter. 3) The tops of the walls were generally level. 4) Draintile outlets were observed extending through the wall face. 5) Geogrid was observed in several areas extending slightly through the wall face. The geogrid was orientated in the correct direction. It should be noted that our observations were performed after construction, and did not include testing of the soil placement or soil compaction. Therefore, we cannot comment on the soil placement and soil compaction or any of the construction methods used to build the wall. However, the testing reports from AET indicate the foundation soils were suitable for support of the wall system and the compaction testing indicates proper compaction was achieved in the backfill zone. Conclusions Based on our on-site observations, it is our opinion that the segmental retaining wall is performing in general accordance with the plans prepared by VEC.
