HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-06-07 work session Meeting Notes Planning Commission Work Session Thursday, December 6, 2007 Marion Conference Room ....The Planning Commission work session commenced at 6:00 pm. in the Marion Conference Room at City Hall. Commissioners Present: Chair Drotning, Davis, Grenz, Manikowski, Pattee, and Stolte. Staff Present: Planning Director Daryl Morey, Associate Planner Allyn Kuennen and Planning Consultant Daniel Licht (~NAC)!). Public Present: Tim Boatman and Brooks Lillehei 2008 Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update Staff updated the Planning Commission regarding the comments that were received during the second round of neighborhood meetings that were held in October and November of 2007. The majority of the comments. received during this round of neighborhood district meetings were submitted in writing. Staff reviewed with the Planning Commission fhe written .requests and .comments received by the City regarding the draft 2030 Future Land Use Map and draft 2030 • MUSA Staging Plan. . Tim Boatman representing Cities Properties LLC was present at the work session and explained the current status of his property located at the southwest corner of Dodd Boulevard and 175tH Street. Mr. Boatman requested the area currently designated for Commercial on the 2020 Land Use Plan be maintained and potentially expanded to the south to the 'future 179t" Street extension. The Planning. Commission discussed the proposed land uses and directed staff to revise the area designated for Commercial to Office/Residential Transition on the proposed 2030 Land Use Plan to provide the property owner and the City the flexibility in the future for the area to develop either for residential or limited commercial uses.. The Planning Commission did not recommend extending the Commercial designation to the future 179th Street extension. The Planning Commission reviewed the remaining proposed land use changes received at the neighborhood district meetings or submitted in writing and agreed with staff's recommendations as outlined in the November 30, 2007 work session memo. Staff further indicated that the Brown property was designated for aLow/Medium Density Residential land .use in the 1988 Comprehensive Plan and subsequently revised to an Office land use with, the 1998 Comprehensive Plan Update. The 2008 Comprehensive Plan Update proposes the Low/Medium Density Residential Land Use designation of the 1988 Comprehensive Plan. Staff also presented to the Planning Commission information comparing. the existing 2020 Comprehensive Land Use Plan with the proposed 2030 Comprehensive Land Use Plan regarding land use category changes and residential densities. • Staff indicated that .the next steps in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan update would be to schedule a work session with the City Council to review the Planning Commission's .recommendations. Following the City Council work session a final preliminary draft of the plan will be prepare and reviewed of a public hearing during a Planning Commission meeting likely in February 2008.
