Home My WebLink AboutItem 08a - Election of Officers Memo1 City of Lakeville Community Development Memorandum To: Planning Commission From: Dawn Erickson, Senior Administrative Assistant Date: May 1, 2025 Subject: Election of Officers May 8, 2025 Planning Commission Meeting Section 2 of the Lakeville City Code establishes the Planning Commission and provides for the organization and procedures of the commission. At their March 17, 2025 meeting the City Council approved Planning Commission appointments. The City Code states that, at the first regular meeting of the year following City Council appointment of Planning Commission members, the Planning Commission shall elect a chairperson whose election must receive the confirmation of the City Council. No Planning Commission member shall serve more than three (3) consecutive years as chairperson. Jenna Majorowicz’ term expired and she did not re-apply for appointment. The City Code also states that, at the first meeting of the year following City Council appointment of Planning Commission members, the Planning Commission shall elect a vice-chairperson. The vice-chairperson shall chair the Planning Commission meetings in the absence of the chairperson. Christine Zimmer has served two years as the vice-chairperson. The following procedures should be followed in the election process: 1) The existing chair (or vice chair if chair is no longer on the board) should ask for nominations from the board members. Nominations can be taken individually by position (chair, vice-chair) or as a slate of officers. This call for nominations should occur three 2 times (are there any nominations; are there any more nominations, are there any more nominations). The chair shall announce that self-nominations are allowed. 2) Once three calls for nominations are completed, the chair shall state that nominations are closed. 3) A vote on the positions, either individually or as a slate, shall occur. The person with the most votes is elected. 4) A newly elected chair takes over presiding duties at the next Planning Commission meeting. Action Requested: Commissioners are asked to elect officers to serve the April 2025 - March 2026 term.
