RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE CAPITAL BUDGET REQUESTS
FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING A
LAKEVILLE AREA ARTS CENTER
WHEREAS, in August 1998, the City Council authorized a Lakeville Area Arts Center
Study which studied area arts organizations, facilities and events (theater, dance, visual arts,
music, historical society); visited newly constructed art facilities and renovated facilities;
organized focus groups of arts related organizations to explore interest and possible usage; and
defined the need for an arts center in the community; and
WHEREAS, in March 1999, the City Council accepted the Arts Center Study and
authorized a market analysis and formal appraisal of All Saints South Campus; and
WHEREAS, in June 1999, the City Council entered into an agreement with Grooters,
Leapaldt and Tideman Architects to provide conceptual floor plans and cost estimates for
converting the former All Saints Catholic Church, now known as Hart Hall, into an area arts
center; and
WHEREAS, in August 1999, the City Council reviewed options and cost estimates from
the architect, received an appraisal from C.E. LaSalle and Associates and received the 1999
Community Survey results indicating 67% of the residents surveyed agreed an arts center would
enhance the quality of life in Lakeville; and
WHEREAS, the Lakeville Area Arts Center will provide the opportunity for theatre
productions, dance recitals, music classes and a visual arts facility for south metro residents; and
WHEREAS, many south metro residents have embraced the arts center concept as one of
great potential and benefit to the community; and
WHEREAS, the City has submitted a Capital Budget Request application to the State of
Minnesota requesting $560,000 to assist the City with reconstruction costs associated with
renovating Hart Hall into an area arts center; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Lakeville is in
support of the capital budget requests .for the purpose of providing $560,000 to the City of
Lakeville to assist in the cost associated with converting Hart Hall into a Lakeville Area Arts
Center.
