HomeMy WebLinkAbout99-179 • CITY OF LAKEVILLE DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION Date August 2, 1999 Resolution 99-179 Motion By Sindt Seconded By Mulvihill RESOLUTION RECEIVING AND ADOPTING THE DESIGN GUIDELINES OF THE CORRIDOR AND GATEWAY DESIGN STUDY WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission recommended as part of their Strategic Plan for Economic Development a study of the major transportation corridors and gateways; and WHEREAS, the City of Lakeville contracted with Barton-Aschman Associates on September 8, 1998, for a Corridor and Gateway Design Study which would identify opportunities and make design recommendations that promote the community's identity and distinguish Lakeville from other communities in all seasons; and • WHEREAS, representatives of Barton-Aschman Associates and City Staff worked with members of the community in the development of the design guidelines through: 1. An Open House which informed members of the community about the study, solicited feedback on the preliminary results, and identified interested community members to participate further in the process 2. An Ideation Workshop where over 25 members of the community established a vision and a theme for Lakeville 3. A Guideline Review Meeting where members of the community reviewed the design guidelines, made recommendations for modifications, and expressed their approval of the document; and WHEREAS, the Design Guidelines were reviewed and recommended for approval by the Planning Commission on June 3, 1999; Economic Development Commission on June 15, 1999; and Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee on June 15, 1999. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville, Minnesota that the Design Guidelines of the Corridor and Gateway Design Study are hereby received and adopted; and • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that: 1. City Staff is directed to solicit proposals for Phase Two of the study which would devise a framework for project management and priority setting, maintenance policies, cost estimates, identification of funding sources, and the development of educational materials. 2. City Staff is directed to utilize the Design Guidelines for future improvement projects. 3. The Dakota County Highway Department is requested to utilize the Design Guidelines and to work with City Staff to incorporate design features in future road improvement projects within the City. 4. City Staff is directed to work with the Planning Commission to incorporate the Design Guidelines into the landscaping requirements of the Zoning Ordinance during the update process currently underway.
