HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-059 1 CITY OF LAKEVILLE RESOLUTION Date April 6, 1998 Resolution No. 98-59 Motion by Sindt Seconded by Mulvihill RESOLUTION AMENDING THE LAKEVILLE EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK MODIFYING THE SAFETY AND HEALTH POLICY WHEREAS, the City Council, on December 17, 1984, approved Resolution 84-178 adopting the employee handbook for all positions with. the City of Lakeville except non-exempt positions with the Liquor Stores; and WHEREAS, Minnesota OSHA standards state that employers must provide protective footwear (safety shoes) to employees in positions required to perform job tasks in an environment which presents a possible hazard to the employee's feet; and WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute § 182.655 subd.l0(a) is interpreted to state that the employer is responsible for the minimum cost of the. safety shoe; and WHEREAS, the City Council on December 17, 1997 approved a revised Safety and i Health Policy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville: 1. The Lakeville Employee Handbook is amended that effective January 1, 1998, the policy on page 4, "Safety and Health" dated December 17, 1997, is hereby rescinded and replaced with "Safety and Health" dated April 6, 1998. 2. The City Administrator is directed to distribute copies of the new policy to City employees. APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Lakeville, Minnesota this 6th day of April, 1998. The personal safety and health of each employee of the City of Lakeville and the prevention of occupationally induced injuries and illness is of primary importance. To the greatest degree possible, management will maintain a safety and health program conforming with the best practices of organizations of this type and will provide mechanical and physical facilities for personal safety and health. This program may also include reimbursement for safety shoes to employees in positions required to wear them for work safety as determined by management.. To be successful, such a program must embody the proper attitudes toward injury and illness prevention on the part of all employees. 1. The responsibilities for safety and health must be shared: a) The employer, through the Municipal Safety Committee, is responsible for leadership of the safety and health program, for its effectiveness and improvement, and for providing the safeguards required to ensure safe conditions. b) Supervisors are responsible for developing the proper attitudes toward safety and health in themselves and in those they supervise; and for ensuring that all operations are performed with utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved. c) Employees are responsible for genuine cooperation with all aspects of the safety and health program, including compliance with all rules. and regulations, and for continuously practicing safety while performing their duties. Only through a cooperative effort can a safety .record in the best interest of all be established and preserved. 2. Safety Shoe Reimbursement. The City will :reimburse up to $50.00 (fifty dollars per year to eligible employ who are required to wear safety. shoes. Reimbursement claims must be submitted to the Finance Department on a claim form provided by the City and must include a copy of the purchase receipt. 1/1/98 4
