HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-117 CITY OF LAKEVILLE RESOLUTION DATE: July 1, 1996 RESOLUTION NO: 96-117 MOTION BY: Johnson SECONDED BY: Holberg RESOLUTION REQUESTING DAKOTA COUNTY AND MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CLOSELY MONITOR TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AT THE INTERSECTION OF 172ND STREET AND CSAH 5 IN LAKEVILLE, MN WHEREAS, Dakota County and the City of Lakeville are jointly participating in the reconstruction of County Road 46, including an interchange at I-35 and County Road 46; and • WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is reconstructing I-35 from CSAH 50/5 to Crystal Lake Road; and WHEREAS, traffic in the City of Lakeville is experiencing congestion on CSAH 5 at the intersection of 172nd Street; and WHEREAS, the signal timing on CSAH 5 has been altered to minimize stacking of traffic on the I-35 southbound exit to CSAH 5; and WHEREAS, upon the opening of the County Road 46 interchange, the southbound exit ramp to CSAH 5 off I-35 and the northbound entrance ramp to I-35 at CSAH 50 will be closed, and traffic will be effectively detoured along Kenrick Avenue and Kenyon Avenue, adding an additional 30 to 50 days of traffic detours and extending the duration of the traffic congestion; and WHEREAS, the City of Lakeville believes that afour-way stop may be warranted at the intersection of CSAH 5 and 172nd Street during the time of the ramp closure for reconstruction. • • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lakeville City Council requests the Dakota County Highway Department and Mn/DOT take measures to closely monitor the traffic conditions at this intersection throughout the construction period; and if traffic congestion should increase, to consider taking appropriate measures to install four way stop control at the intersection of 172nd Street and CSAH 5 until all construction is completed.
