HomeMy WebLinkAbout90-117 CITY OF LAKEVILLE • RESOLUTION DATE October 1, 1990 RESOLUTION NO. 90-I17 MOTION BY Ruhmann SECONDED BY Harvey RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING GERMAN-AMERICAN DAY OCTOBER 6, 1990 WHEREAS, it was on October 6, 1683, that the first Germans arrived in the United States;. and WHEREAS, today, more than 60 million Americans trace at least a part of their ancestry to Germany; and WHEREAS, the sons and daughters of Germany have served this city and this country steadfastly over the years in all fields; and WHEREAS, forty-five percent of Minnesota's population is German; and WHEREAS, The United States Conference of Mayors in cooperation • with the German Association of Cities and The Federal Republic of Germany have joined in a cooperative. effort to commemorate the invaluable contributions of Americans and German ancestry. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Lakeville, Minnesota, proclaim October 6, 1990, and every October 6 as German-American Day and call upon all citizens to recognize the vital role German-Americans have played in the development of our city and nation.
