HomeMy WebLinkAbout90-038 r • CITY OF LAKEVILLE RESOLUTION DATE April 16, 1990 RESOLUTION 90-38 MOTION BY Harvey SECONDED BY Ruhmann RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING EARTH WEEK WHEREAS, almost twenty years ago, more than twenty million Americans joined together on Earth Day in a demonstration of concern for the environment, and their collective action resulted in the passage of sweeping new laws to protect our air, water, and land; • WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a national and international call to action for all citizens to join in a global effort to save the planet; WHEREAS, due to the importance in demonstrating the concern for the environment, Earth Day 1990 shall be extended to Earth Week 1990; WHEREAS, Earth Week 1990 will educate students on hazardous waste, wildlife habitat and the importance of recycling; WHEREAS, Earth Week 1990 will include a community clean up day where organizations and citizens will take part in cleaning up .ditches along streets, side roads and highways; WHEREAS, Earth Week 1990 will promote recycling, specifically. items such as appliances, beverage cans, newsprint and automobile • batteries; r r • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lakeville designate and proclaim April 22 - 28, 1990 as Earth Week 1990, and that week shall be set aside for public activities promoting preservation of the global environment and launching the "Decade of the Environment".
