A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF LAKEVILLE RECOMN~DING
THE DAKO'T'A COUNTY BOARD OF COMP~IISSIONERS
MAINTAIN THE EXISTING POLICIES GOVERNING THE FUNDING AND CONSTRUCTION
OF TRAILS AIlJNG COUNTY DESIGNATED TRAIL ROUTES
WHERFEAS current policies by the Dakota County Boarcl of
Co7rnnissioners allows for planning, construction and 100% funding of off-
street bike trails along designated Dakota County trail routes and in
conjunction with major county road projects; and
WHEREAS, existing Dakota County trails that link up with existing
Lakeville trails are greatly appreciated and frequently used by Lakeville
residents; and
WHEREAS, the Dakota County Planning Advisory Commission, upon
request by the Dakota County Board, completed a trail system review through
• public hearings during the summer of fall of 1989 to determine usage and
need for such a system; and
WHEREAS, the Dakota County Planning Advisory Co~mtission made
several recommendations to the Physical Development Board to support
existing policies and to consider expanding trail development; and
WHERE',AS, the Dakota County Physical Development Board received
those recommmendations and forwarded certain recommendations to staff for
further review, leaving out a key policy of 100% funding by the county on
designated county bikeway routes; and
WHERE',AS, the recent Dakota County survey indicated strong support
of bicycling throughout the county on off-street trails; and
WHERE',AS, the current five year capital improvement program
provides for off-street trail systems in conjunction with the surrounding
municipalities; and
WHEE2FAS, several major links are planned in the existing five year
plan that would give Dakota County a good linear off-street system when
complete.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lakeville City Council
recommends that the Dakota County Boan~ of Co7mnissioners maintain the
existing policies of developing trails along designated county trail routes
• and that the county continue 100% funding of county trail segments.
