OF NAZ[7RAL RESOURCES CONSIDER PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FUNDING
FOR 'PHE PURPOSE OF INCREASING CONSII7VATION OFFICERS' PATROL, AND ENFORCFd`~1T
ON DAKOTA COUNTY LAKES AND RIVERS.
Wf~~S, the population of Lakeville and other prominent Dakota .County
cities has increased significantly in the past five years; and
WfIE.'RI'AS, the rapid population increase can be directly related to
dramatic increases in recreational activities on our lakes aril river; and
i~kIERF~.S, the present staffing by the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources to cover all lakes, rivers and trails throughout the southern Metro
area is less than desirable; and
WFiP.'E2EAS, there has been a marked increase in violations associated with
snowmobiling, swrnner and winter use of our lakes and rivers; and
• W~2L'1~5, population predictions indicate that the southern Metro area
.and particularly Dakota County growth will continue, bringing with it more
problems associated with our lakes and rivers; and
W~RF,AS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources proudly proclaims
Lake Marion as one of the top ten fishing Ickes in the Metropolitan area, which
contributes to Lake"Marion's and Orchan~i Lake's over popularity.
Tg-~EF+ORE, be it resolved, that the Lakeville City Council respectfully
requests the Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources consider increasing per.:~onnel
in the southern Metropolitan area, in particular Dakota County, to specifically
deal with the recreational enforcement of lakes, rivers and trails throughout
Dakota County which will in turn guarantee a high quality of recreational oppor-
tunies and preservation of our greatest natural resource, our lakes and rivers.
