Memorandum
To: Economic Development Commission
From: David L. Olson, Community and Economic Development Director
Copy: Steve Mielke, City Administrator
Adam Kienberger, Economic Development Specialist
Date: July 20, 2007
Subject: July Director's Report
Reminder: There is no EDC meeting in July. The next meeting of the EDC
will be August 28"'.
The following is the Director's Report for July of 2007.
August EDC Meeting /Strategic Planning Retreat
Please Mark Your Calendars. The August 28"' Meeting of the EDC has been
scheduled for the Economic Development Strategic Planning Retreat. This is similar
to the process that was used in 2004 and is the first step in the process for the
preparation of the Strategic Plan for 2008-2010. This Planning Retreat will start
at 4:D0 p.m. and the plan is to go until 8:00 p.m. with a half hour break for dinner
that will be provided. Todd Rapp of Himle Horner has agreed to facilitate this
process again for the City.
Similar to the process that was used three years ago, staff will be distributing a
significant issues questionnaire to the EDC and Mayor and City Council to identify
the significant issues facing the City as they pertain to economic development. The
results of all of the questionnaires will be compiled and used at the Planning Retreat
as the basis of discussions to identify the significant issues for the next Strategic
Plan as well as identify goals and outcomes.
The questionnaires will be emailed out around August 1~ and EDC and Council
members will have a week to complete them and return them to staff.
