The next meeting of the EDC will be August 28"'. The following is the Director's Report for July of 2007. August EDC Meeting /Strategic Planning Retreat Please Mark Your Calendars. The August 28"' Meeting of the EDC has been scheduled for the Economic Development Strategic Planning Retreat. This is similar to the process that was used in 2004 and is the first step in the process for the preparation of the Strategic Plan for 2008-2010. This Planning Retreat will start at 4:D0 p.m. and the plan is to go until 8:00 p.m. with a half hour break for dinner that will be provided. Todd Rapp of Himle Horner has agreed to facilitate this process again for the City. Similar to the process that was used three years ago, staff will be distributing a significant issues questionnaire to the EDC and Mayor and City Council to identify the significant issues facing the City as they pertain to economic development. The results of all of the questionnaires will be compiled and used at the Planning Retreat as the basis of discussions to identify the significant issues for the next Strategic Plan as well as identify goals and outcomes. The questionnaires will be emailed out around August 1~ and EDC and Council members will have a week to complete them and return them to staff. 2007 June Building Permit Report The City issued building permits through the end of June with a total valuation of $79,702,918. This compares to a total of $75,886,784 during the same period in 2006. Included in this valuation were commercial and industrial permits with a total valuation of $21,681,600. This compares to a total valuation of $8,982,000 during the same period in 2006. The City issued permits for 120 single family homes through )une with a total valuation of $31,933,000. This compares to 141 single family home permits during the same period in 2006 with a total valuation of $41,420,955. The City issued permits for 76 townhome and condo units through June which compares to 114 townhome and condo permits issued during the same period in 2006. New Commercial Developments The City has recently issued building permits for the following commercial projects: • Porterhouse Steak and Seafood Restaurant (Corner of Kenrick and 205tH Street) • City Police Station (Dodd and 183' Street) Jerry Erickson Jerry is continuing his recovery at the Ebenezer Ridges Care Center in Burnsville. The family does not know how long he will be there. Jerry's brain continues to heal and he is able to do some walking with a walker. His son Scott indicates that he is able to have visitors.
