RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT
TO CONTINUE THEIR EFFORTS TO HALT THE PERSECUTION
OF THE BAHA'I MINORITY IN IRAN
WHEREAS, the Baha'i community in Iran is experiencing persecution,
harassment and disappearance of family members, job discrimination,
seizure of bank funds, destruction of personal property and torture; and
WHEREAS, current reports show that over two hundred Baha'is and
• Baha'i religious leaders have been executed by the government of Iran;
and
WHEREAS, the continued harassment and murder of Baha'is demon-
strates that the government of Iran has launched a conscious effort to
destroy the Baha'i community; and
WHEREAS, both the United States government and the United Nations
Human Rights Commission have protested the persistent violations of
human rights directed against the Baha'i community by the Iranian
authorities; and
WHEREAS, despite the above-mentioned resolutions, the government of
Iran has outlawed the administrative institutions of the Baha'i Faith in
Iran and continues to severely persecute its adherents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Lakeville,
Minnesota, that it condemns the persecution of the Baha'is and urges the
Congress and the President of the United States to continue their
efforts to halt the persecution of the Baha'i community in Iran.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Lake-
ville, Minnesota, is directed to transmit certified copies of this
memorial to the President of the United States, the President and
Secretary of the Untied States Senate, the Speaker and the Chief Clerk
of the United States House of Representatives and to Minnesota's
Senators and Representatives in Congress.
