Chapter 340 provides that when any municipality with an established municipal. liquor store exceeds 10,000 in population, the municipality shall :.conduct. an election to determine` if :the City shall continue to operate the municipal. liquor store, and whereas, according to the official 1980`' Census, Lakeville's, pops ation ..exceeds 10,000; and WHEREAS, on May 5, 1970, an elec i.on was held in the City at which split liquor 'was approved by 'the electors which allows the City to issue certain on-sale liquor ..licenses. to hotels .and restaurants; anal ~+THEREAS, the City has previously issued an on-sale liquor license. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lakeville City Council a s follows 1. The question "Shall the City continue to operate its munci- pal liquor store?" shall be submitted to the electors at a special election to be held on Tuesday, July 14, 1981. 2 The City .Clerk is directed to give the notice of the election as required by .law.
