CITY OF LAKEVILLE
DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 254, BEING THE CITY'S SIGN ORDINANCE A5
IT RELATES TO THE ICD ZONING DISTRICT.
THE LAKEVILLE CITY COUNCIL DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. Section 3-Definition of Ordinance No. 254 is amended to read:
3.17 A. Freeway Commercial Center. The land located within two thousand
five hundred (2500) feet of a full North/South Interstate 35 interchange.
3.17 B. Freeway Corridor District. A special signing District encompassing
land located one thousand five hundred (1500) feet either side (East/West) of the
Interstate 35 centerline.
Section 2. Section 5.1.8 of Ordinance No. 254 is hereby amended to read:
8. Construction Signs. A nonilluminated construction sign. confined to the
site of the construction, alteration or repair. Such sign must be
removed within two (2} years of the date of issuance of the first building
permit on the site or when the particular project is completed, whichever
is sooner. One sign shall be permitted for each street the project
abuts. No sign may exceed thirty-two (32) square feet in the AP, RA,
R-1, R'-2, R-3, R-4, R-5 and R-6 Districts or fifty (50} square feet in
the R-7, R-B, Freeway Corridor District, busi-.Hess and industrial districts.
Section 3. Section 7.7 of Ordinance No. 254 is hereby amended to change the title.
7.7. Freeway Corridor District.
Section 4. Section 7.7.4 of Ordinance No. 254 is hereby amended to read:
4. The "freeway Commercial Center". Except as may be authorized as part of
a planned unit development or a conditional use permit, signing within the .freeway
commercial center shall. be restricted tb the standards applied to the balance of the
Freeway Corridor District. The City Council may authorize one combined, consoli-
dated freestanding business identification sign in lieu of individual freestanding
business signs as otherwise permitted. Consideration for such a request shall
take into account, but not be limited to the need and limitations of freeway
visibility, the number bf businesses involved and resulting signs eliminated, the
impact on the area, and the potehtial number of similar, competing signs.
a. The sign may exceed the height and area requirements otherwise
imposed within the Freeway Corridor District, provided that:
1~ The. height shall not exceed seventy (70) feet.
2) The sign face area shall not exceed seven hungred (700) square
feet.
b. As part of'such a freestanding business sign, the City Council may
allow a time/temperature/information reader board, provided that:
1) The ,size of the message board does not exceed three hundred fifty
(350) square feet and ten (10) feet by thirty-five (35) feet. The
area of the message board is to be included within the maximum sign
area limits allowed per sign.
2) The message depicted is contained in one statement and not a
continuing sentence or flow in information.
3) No one message shall contain over fifty (50) percent of the area
devoted to advertising.'
Section 5. Section 8.5 of Ordinance No. 254 is hereby amended to read:
8.5 Freeway Area Directional Signs. Within the Freeway Corridor District,
directional signs indicating business identification and access routing signs
may be allowed by approval of the City Council. Such signs sha71 be in compliance
with the maximum sign size provisions of the District.
Section 6. Effect. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
passage and publication.
