HomeMy WebLinkAbout0249 ORDINANCE NO. 249 CITY OF LAKEVILLE DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 176, BEING THE CITY'S SIGN ORDINANCE The Lakeville City Council hereby ordains: Section 1. Section 7.7 of Ordinance No. 176 is amended adding Section 7.7 (3) to read: 3) The "Freeway Commercial Center" is defined as land in the ICD which lies within 2,500 feet of a full North/South I-35 interchange. a) Except as may be authorized as part of a planned unit development or a conditional use permit, signing within the freeway commercial center shall be restricted to the standards applied to the balance of the ICD District. b) In the case of three or more properties or freestanding principal structures which are part of a planned unit development, the City Council may authorize one combined, consolidated freestanding business identification sign in lieu of individual freestanding business signs as otherwise permitted. Consideration for such a request shall take into account, but not be limited to the need and limitations of freeway visibility, the number of businesses involved and resulting signs eliminated, the impact on the area, and the potential number of similar, competing signs. 1. Said sign may exceed the height and area requirements otherwise imposed within the ICD District, provided that: a. The increased height shall not exceed seventy (70) feet. b. The sign face area shall not exceed seven hundred (700) square feet. 2. As part of such a freestanding business sign, the City Council may allow a time/temperature/;information board, provided that: a. The size of the message board does not exceed three hundred fity (350) square feet and ten(10) feet by thirty-five (35) feet. The area of the message board is to be included within the maximum sign area limits allowed per sign. b. The message depicted is contained in one statement and not a continuing sentence or flow in information. c. No one message shall contain over fifty (50) percent of the area devoted to advertising. Section 2. Section 7,8 of Ordinance No. 176 is amended to read: 7.8 "PUD" Planned Unit Development District. Except as provided in Section 7.7(3) in a Planned Unit Develop- ment District signing restrictions shall be based upon the individual uses and structures contained in the complex. Signs shall be in compliance with the restric- tions applied in -the most restrictive zoning district in which the use is allowed. Section 3. This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and publication. Adopted this 18th day of June, 1984.
