HomeMy WebLinkAbout0072 ` CITY OF LAKEVILLE ORDINANCE NO. 72 AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE DATE OF THE REGULAR CITY ELECTION, EXTENDING THE TERM OF COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR ONE YEAR WHERE NECESSARY, AND PROVIDING FOR THE YEAR WHEN CERTAIN COUNCIL- MEN ARE TO BE ELECTED THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEVILLE ORDAINS: Section 1. Date of Election. The regular city election shall be held biennially on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in every odd-numbered year, beginning with the 1975 election. There shall be no regular city election in 1974. Section 2. Extension of Terms of Council Members. The term of the councilman whose current term will expire on the first day of January, 1975 is extended to the first business day of January, 1976 and that office shall be filled at the 1975 city election. The term of the councilman whose current term will expire on the first business day of January, 1977 is extended to the first business day of January, 1978 and that office shall be filled at the 1977 city election. Section 3. Terms and Transition. Two councilmen shall be elected for four-year terms at each biennial city election com- mencing in 1977. At the 1975 election, three councilmen shall be elected; the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall serve for terms of four years and the one receiving the third highest number of votes shall serve for a term of two years. The mayor shall be elected for a two-year term at each such election. Adopted by the Council this day of ,1974. (6) Said newspaper files a copy of ach issue immediately with the State Historical Society. (7) Said news- paper has complied with all the foregoing conditions for at least two years receding the day or dates of publication mentioned below. (8) Said news - raper has filed with the Secretary of State of Minnesota prior to January 1, [966 and each January 1 thereafter an affidavit in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State and signed by publisher of said newspaper and sworn to before a notary public stating that the newspaper is a legal newspaper.
