HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-03 • CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING JUNE 3, 1998 The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee's spring park tour began at 6:00 PM. Present were committee members H. Lovelace, L. Lulf, J. Larson, A. Raymond, C. Bonn and P. Messinger. Also present were Council member Lynette Mulvihill, City Administrator Bob Erickson and Administrative Assistant Jake Sedlacek. Sites visited on the tour included Quigley-Sime Park, King Athletic Complex, Cherryview Park, Dodd Trail Park, Dodd Pointe Park, Oak Shores Park, Klamath trailway connection, 195th Street paving project/Juno Trail, Christian property and 205th Street trail. Refreshments were served at City Hall following the tour. ITEM #l. Call to order. The meeting was called to order in the Lakeville Council Chambers by Vice Chairperson Messinger at 8:15 PM. ITEM #2. Roll call. Present were H. Lovelace, L. Lulf, J. Larson, A. Raymond, C. Bonn and P. Messinger. Chair Warless-Sobel was absent. Also present were Park Director Steve Michaud, Administrative Assistant Jake Sedlacek and Recording Secretary Judi Ryan. ITEM #3. Minutes of May 20, 1998. The minutes of the May 20, 1998 Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting were discussed. There were no additions or corrections and the minutes were approved as printed. ITEM #4. Citizen comments. There were no citizens present for items not on the agenda. ITEM #5. Staff reports and summary of current projects. ~ The block work at the Quigley-Sime building should begin next week. Much of the labor which is going into the construction is from volunteers. The building is on schedule to be completed by the target date of August 1, 1998, in time for the AAU National Tournament. ~ Construction of Dodd Pointe Park was discussed. Committee member Bonn is concerned with the park being so close to a roadway, and suggested berms be installed to buffer County Road 46. Staff stated there may be an opportunity to acquire extra dirt from a nearby roadway project. Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Minutes June 3, 1998 Page -2- ~ The Awaken to the Arts concert series began last week with a performance by the a cappella group, Tonic Sol Fa. The group drew a good crowd at Lakeville High School and put on a very good show. ITEM #6. Review preliminary and final plat of Wyldewood Oaks and make park and trail dedication recommendation to City Council. Wyldewood Oaks plat, located east of Woodridge Estates and north of 185th Street, consists of 36 lots. The property is rolling and heavily wooded and there is no park land identified in the plat. A section of on-street trail along 185th Street will need to be relocated due to turn lanes which will be installed as part of the plat. At their May 6th meeting the Parks and Recreation Committee reviewed the preliminary plat of Wyldewood Oaks and recommended City Council consider a cash contribution to satisfy both the park and trail dedication ordinance requirements. In addition, Committee members recommended the developer be required to rebuild the eight-foot bituminous off-street trail along the south portion of the plat boundary. 98.33 Motion was made by Raymond, seconded by Bonn, to recommend City Council approve the final plat of Wyldewood Oaks and require a cash contribution to satisfy • the park and trail dedication requirements. In addition, the developer will be required to rebuild the eight-foot bituminous off-street trail along 185th Street on the south plat boundary. Motion passed. ITEM #7. Discuss park naming relative to Pexa property and Greenridge Estates property. Copies of the park naming policy were distributed to committee members in their meeting packets. Committee members wished to have more time to review options and consider suggestions for naming of park properties. 98.34 Motion was made by Larson, seconded by Lulf, to table the discussion of park naming until the next meeting. Motion passed. ITEM #8. Approval of Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting schedule changes for June and July, 1998. In order for meetings to be consistent with other committees, staff is recommending the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee consider canceling their June 17, 1998 meeting and rescheduling for June 24th. In addition, staff stated that other City • advisory committees and commissions are canceling their meetings scheduled for the first week of July, taking into account the closeness to the July 4th long weekend. Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Minutes June 3, 1998 Page -3- 98.35 Motion was made by Larson, seconded by Raymond, to reschedule the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting of June 17th for June 24, 1998 and cancel the July 1, 1998 meeting . Motion passed. ITEM #9. - Unfinished business. There was no unfuushed business at this time. ITEM #10. - New business. Committee member Messinger stated that softball fields 3 and 4 at Parkview Park are having some water problems and may need to be crowned for better drainage. Also, the fields at Dodd Trail should be checked for the same problem. The annual Dakota County joint advisory committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 1998. Steve Michaud and Jeff Larson will attend; other committee members will let the Park Secretary know if they will also attend. Committee member Lulf mentioned there is a tree down at Kenreel Park which is • near the playground area. Park maintenance will be notified. ITEM #11. - Announcements. .The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is scheduled for June 24, 1998 at 6:00 PM. ITEM #12. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM.
