HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-18 CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES AUGUST 18, 1993 ITEM 1. -Call to order. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Illa. ITEM 2. -Roll call. Present were H. Lovelace,. L. Lulf, J. Larson, K. Illa and G. Grenz. A. Raymond and P. Messin er were on vacation. Also present were Park Director Steve Michaud and ~ecording Secretary Judi Ryan. ITEM 3. -Minutes of August 4 1993. The minutes of the August . 1993 Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting. were discussed. There were no additions or corrections and the minutes were approved as printed. ITEM 4. -Citizen comments. There were no citizens present for items not on the agenda. ITEM 5. -Staff reports. * Staff had planned to start the Tree Trust crews on fencing Parkview Park and doing some wood chipping, but. since this will be their last week it was decided other fencing projects should be finished if • possible. * The second annual Safety Camp was held Monday through Wednesday this week. It was staff's intention to .hold the entire camp at Antlers Park, however, with the threatening weather on Wednesday, the final day was held at Lake Marion Elementary School. * Staff informed the committee of the recent drowning at Orchard Lake. * Today's rainstorm .caused flooding in many areas of the city. The partially completed pond at ,Quigley-Sime was full to the brim. There was no a parent erosion of the black dirt which has been distributed at the ~uigley-Sime site. ITEM 6. -Brackett's Crossing Second Addition. This final plat, submitted by Herb Wensmann, consists of 20 townhome lots, one common area lot, and three outlots. The plat is located on the north side of Layton Path and is adjacent to Murphy-Hanrehan Park to the west. Sidewalks will be extended through this phase along the west side of Layton Path to Outlot A. From this point an eight foot wide bituminous trail will be constructed through Murphy-Hanrehan Park. to 175th Street. All park and trail dedication requirements were met as part of the Brackett's Crossing plat. 93.30 Motion was made by Larson, seconded b Lulf, to recommend City Council approve Brackett's Crossing Second Addition plat. • potion passed. Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Minutes August 18, 1993 Page -2- ITEM 7. -Unfinished business. Committee member Lulf mentioned the tour of the new Lakeville High School which had taken place earlier this week. He was very impressed, not only with the school, but also with the superintendent and principal who did such a fine job of conducting the tour.. The annual Youth Fishing Tournament. was held on Saturday, August 14th. Approximately 35, youth participated in the tournament which .had to be cut short due to ram. ITEM 8. -New business. Steve Michaud thanked Jeff Larson on behalf of the Lakeville Parks and Recreation Department for all the time spent on the Parks and Recreation Committee and for his hard work and contributions. Committee Chair Kevin Illa thanked Mr. Larson on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and commended Jeff on the contributions he has made as an ambassador of the City of Lakeville especially in the area of his work with the MRPA Board and Commission Section. Staff mentioned that four or five people have expressed an interest in filling the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee vacancy. . Committee member Lulf mentioned that he had seen people using the pond by Lake Marion Elementary School for remote control boats. Staff has also talked to people who he saw using the area and told them they should have ISD #194 s permission to use their property. ITEM 9. -Announcements. The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is scheduled for September 1, 1993, 7:00 PM, at the City Hall Council Chambers. ITEM 10. -Adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 PM.
