ITEM 7. Review elementary school recreation program survey, results.
Renee Brekken, Recreation Supervisor addressed the committee and
discussed the results of a survey of elementary school students. The
purpose of .the survey was to receive input on students ` interests far
summer activities and parents views of times, locations and costs. The
survey showed that parents preferred Monday, Wednesday and. Friday
morning programs; however, staff felt mornings were in conflict with
summer school activities and also with sites and instructors which would
be shared with the Damp Kermit program. It was decided to offer
activity camps this summer instead of an on-going playground program.
Survey results showed a variety of interests including games, crafts,
discovering .animals, sports, environmental education and creativity
• programs.
Fees for the programs will be in the range of $15.75 to $18.?5,
depending on the amount of materials which need to be purchased for the
proggrams. Many sites were suggested for trips, and staff will be
implementing some of these ideas this summer. Committee member
Messinger telt the idea of activity camps was excellent and found it
very interesting reading the responses from the parents and children.
