OCTOBER 24, 1990
ORCHARD LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
7:00 PM
The second system plan presentation was presented at Orchard
.Lake Elementary School. There were two citizens, city council
member Betty Sindt, and several members of the Parks and
Recreation Advisory Committee present.
.The same agenda and. formate were followed as in the previous
system plan presentation. The key issues from the citizens
included:
1. The importance of providing sidewalks. or trail connections
.from the Orchard Lake area to the main corridor trails
2. The importance of providing a neighborhood park west of 35-W
to serve the Orchard Lake area residents.
Mrs. Anita Smith, a resident of the High. Pointe .Crossings
development, was present. (High.Pointe Crossings is between
Ipava Avenue and Highview and south of 160th Street). Mrs..
Smith's concerns were that the High Point Crossings development
.basically dangles off of 160th Street with no access to trails
• or parks. The only access is out the residential streets to
160th Street, which is presently a high speed road. She
informed the group that there are some 200 children in the area
who are 7 years old and under. She emphasized the importance of
providing some type of facilities and/or trail accesses to
immediate area facilities.
Staff informed Mrs. Smith that the upgrade of County Road 46,
which is due to start in 1992, will provide fora safe
off-street trail on the south side of 160th Street. This should
provide access from that neighborhood to numerous facilities in`
.the immediate area. Staff discused the various available public
facilities including those on the north side of Co. Rd. 4b in
the Burnsville area.
There were several other discussions about both the Orchard Lake
area and the High Pointe Crossings area. The dialogue was
informative and the overall presentation was appreciated by the
two residents present.
