VILLAGE OF LAKEVILLE SPECIAL CANVASSING MEETING
JANiJARY 13 , 19 71
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Jensen at 7:10 P.M.
Flag pledge followed. Present; Jensen, Sullivan, Mako, Clarkson and
Friedges.
577. Motion by Mako seconded by Friedges to accept the certified election
results. of the January 12, 1971 election.
Friedges, Mako, Jensen, Sullivan and Clarkson "aye", motion carried.
Edward Mako was sworn in as mayor, .Jerome Clay, Peter. Friedges,
George Sullivan and Fred Taft as councilaen and Clint Cross and
Walt King, Jr. as Justices of the Peace for the new Village of
Lakeville. Mayor Mako took the chair.
.Motion by Sullivan seconded by Taft to adjourn. C1ay,Friedges,
Mako, Sullivan and Taft."aye", motion carried. Meeting was adjourned.

Special Meeting after Special Canvassing Meeting-January 13, 1971
Special meeting called by Mayor Mako to discuss Valley Park f
Annexation. Whereas council being all present would they waive
notice of special meeting. All members waived notice for special
meeting.
John Todd. and Jack Mitchell. of the law firm, Thuet & Todd,
presented bfiefly the problems of the new Township of Lakeville.
They explained that it was now an unincorporated township and under
statute, any municipality such. as Farmington,.. Apple Valley or
Lakeville could by resolution-vote to annex the entire 9 sections.
They presented a resolution.:prepared by'them for the annexation
and .stated 'that corollary with this. that the 'petition process be
continued and if 51% of the voters in Valley. Park .signed the
..petition, the annexation could be approved without an election..
They also. stated that this matter would have to go back to the MMC.
578. Motion by Taft seconded. by Friedges to adopt .this resolution as
presented and to proceed as suggested. Clay, Friedges, Mako, Sullivan
and Taft "aye", motion carried.
It was mentioned that the hearing before the district court
was set for next Wednesday. Mr. Mitchell advised the council
that their firm would. not recommend opening up the entire
controversy but will attempt `to obtain 14 of the original petitioners
to testify at the hearing that the petition was misrepresented to them.
This could force an election in this area.
He also stated they would try to have the court return to Lakeville
a one mile slice on the west side of the area awarded to Farmington.
Robert Jensen offered his services in assisting them in getting
the 14 petitioners to testify.
579. Motion by Taft seconded by Sullivan. reaffirming Lakeville's
position. of resolution number 480 regarding the Village of
Lakeville offer of service to Valley Park and requesting a place on
the Dakota County Board Agenda-for Tuesday, January 19, 1971..
Friedges, Mako, Sullivan, Taft. and Clay "aye", motion carried
unanimously.

Taft, Clay and Friedges "aye", meeting ad3ourned.
