HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-04 i CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARK AND RECREATION C~IITTEE MINUTES SEPTEMBER 4, 1985 Roll Call: Anderson, Briscoe, Gramstad and Messinger were present. Grenz was on afire call and arrived later. Bud Alich, Park Maintenance Supt., was also present. Item number two was the approval of the August 21, 1985 Park and Recreation Committee minutes. 85-52 It was moved by Anderson, seconded by Messinger, to approve the minutes as read. Under discussion, committee member Briscoe questioned the need for the signs attached to the backstop at Independence Park. They were too vague and did not clarify age limits. Perhaps we need to look into this further before we attach these signs. It was then moved by Anderson, seconded by Messinger, to approve the amended minutes. Motion passed. Bud Alich informed the committee that the installation of the • playground equipment at Valley Lake Park was completed, including sand. The Committee was also informed that all the dead trees had been removed from Antlers Park and that the landscaping timbers were just about complete. After one more day's work, the park would be ready for the dirt fill from the 206th Street projects with the top level coming from the road project at Antlers Park. Bud also informed the committee that the park dept. was looking into a type of grass seed for heavy wear and traffic from Northrup King at a price of approximately $1,000.00 for 3.5 acres. It is hoped that the seeding can be done this fall. Continuing our discussion of Antlers Park, the committee was also informed that two octagon shelters are being proposed for the park as well as benches around the existing trees and possibly some glider swings by the lake. The committee was also informed that there had been an accident with one of the lawn mowers, but that fortunately, no one had been injured. • • Park and Recreation Committee minutes September 4,1985 Page -2- Bud mentioned that the playground equipment ordered by the park department may possibly be in by next week and that installation of this equipment will begin immediately. Also, with the summer help returning to school, the park department is short of help, but is continuing to try to keep up with all its duties. Our next item of discussion was a review of the Dakota County Bikeway Plan. After much discussion about the lack of proposed county trails for the city of Lakeville and the need for such trails, some recommendations were made by the committee: 1. Highway 64 to Ritter Park be included in this plan. 2. Highway 64 to Clearly Lake by included. 3. Any road reconstruction proposed for Highway 50 (particularly by the High School) include a bike trail. 4. The park department request information on road construction projects for any present and/or future plans from both the county • and the city so that we will be made aware of these plans and can compare these with our bikeway plan. Committee member Grenz asked if there is a possibility of designating Highview Ave. as a county trail as opposed to Dodd or requesting county money designated for Dodd be used instead to install a bike path on Highview. He felt that Highview would serve the needs of the outlying areas better because it would feed more .into the center of the city. This trail would also tie into the proposed trail from Foxborough to Woodbury along the drainage easement. The next item of discussion was the park system plan. There were many small errors and suggestions for minor changes made from all the committee members. A list of these errors and changes will be drawn up and given to Steve at the next meeting. Under old business, committee member Grenz asked about the barricades and/or signs for the bike path on Cedar Avenue near 160th Street. Continuing under old business, a question was raised as to whether or not the builder from Dodd Pointe development had been contacted about an easement far a bike path from that development that would connect that development with Valley Park so that the children would have access to the playground facilities in their area. Committee members also asked about the concept plan on Parkview Park. • • Park and Recreation Committee minutes September 4, 19$5 Page -3- Under new business the park committee selected the paint color for repainting the warming houses so they look more attractive in the parks. The selection was limestone (blue-grey) with white trim. Bud also informed the committee that OHSHA inspected the parks and made a few recommendation. Fire extinguishers should be installed at all warming houses as well as installation of automatic emergency lights for all warming houses. 85-53 There being no further business, it was moved by Anderson, seconded by Briscoe, to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM. Respectfully submitted, < , • Pat Messinger, ecretary~ Park and Recreation Committee PM:jr
