HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-04 CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARK AND RECREATION .COMMITTEE MEETING JANUARY 4, 1984 7100 PM Ro11 Ca11: Cramer, Grenz, Olmsted and Lewis were present. Park Director Steve Michaud was also present. The first order of business was. the approval of the December 21, 1983-Park and Recreation Committee minutes. 84..1 It was moved by Lewis, seconded by Grenz, to approve the minutes as read. Motion passed. Item number three was the Park Director's report. Steve informed the committee that the hockey rinks and pleasure skating areas were deteriorating quickly as a result of .the warming trend .now in progress. If the warming trend continues, the rinks would be closed until the ice could be brought back to a safe, skatable condition. A new pleasure skating area has been opened up at Independence Park at the request of citizens in the area. Until the warming trend . hit, most of the skating areas were in excellent condition and were being used frequently. The cross. country ski trails were .being groomed and maintained on a regular schedule. At present, fees are being collected on weekends only. Fees were not collected during the Christmas vacation due to the extremely cold weather. Steve informed the committee that another meeting had been held between the senior citizen building committee, the architect and city .staff. It was estimated that approximately 4,000 square. feet would be necessary to house the facilities being discussed. At present, a program directly related to the size and usage of the square feet is being developed by Zack Johnson Company architects. Item number four was to begin a review of the Park and Open Space System Plan. Tim Erkkila called and reported that he was ill and could not make it to this meeting. This particular item is a high priority and will be continued at our next meeting. Item number five, committee members Olmsted, Lovelace ..and Cramer were re-appointed for the three-year terms on the committee. Election of officers will be made at the next January meeting. Item number six was. old business. Steve recently received some art work from David Licht which was necessary to continue the park brochure. This information will now be consolidated and turned in to the printed for his work to begin. Park and Recreation Committee minutes January 4, 1984 Page -2- The five year capital improvements budget review will be discussed at the next park meeting. Steve also informed the committee of Bob Norden's resignation from the committee. Chairman Cramer requested that the Park Director write a letter to Mr. Norden, thanking him for his time spent and. volunteered in helping the committee and the Park and Recreation Department. 84.2 There being no further business, it was moved by Lewis, seconded by Olmsted, to adjourn the meeting.
