HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-12 CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES OCTOBER 12, 1983 7:00 P.M. Roll Call: Cramer, Storlie, Lewis, Grenz, Olmsted, Lovelace and. Norden were present. Park Director, Steve Michaud, was also present. Next order of business was the approval of the Park and Recreation Committee minutes of September 14, 1983. 83.43 It was moved by Grenz, seconded by Norden, to approve the minutes as read. Motion passed. Item three was the Park Director's report. Steve. gave a continued update on several projects. Jacquard Avenue Park has had an excellent turf growth and should be ready for cutting next summer. The playground equipment has arrived and is in the process of being installed and should be completed by the end of October. Dodd Park Development: At the last meeting, Steve explained he was arranging for the grading of the park. To date, the park has been com- pletely regraded and the parking lot installed. Steve and Bud both decided it was too late to seed at this time and would have the seeding completed as early as possible next spring. Steve reported that Independence Park turf development has gone very well and this park should be ready for further development next summer. Orchard Lake Beach picnic area has finally been completed. Oak Shores Park pevelopment started the first week: of October and was about half completed. Steve expects that by the first weekend in November, that the park would be completely finished and that the lots would. be ready for sale. Under B, Maintenance Update, Steve informed the committee that the soccer program had gone very well and that we had received a letter from the Lakeville Athletic Association, thanking us very much for excellent maintenance. The majority of the turf mowing has been completed and park mainten- ance department is now is the process of upgrading and repairing .all the hockey rinks and skating facilities in preparation for the upcoming winter. We also have several crews out removing dead wood and trimming of all the trees and other landscaped areas. Several minor projects and repairs are underway also. Under C, Steve informed the committee that the 1984 budget was finally approved by the City Council at the special meeting. in October. Steve informed the committee that council approved the Park Department budget as submitted, less a few of the capital improvement projects. Steve told Park and Recreation Committee minutes October 12, 1983 page -2- the committee that he was very pleased with the progress and the funds are allocated for 1984. Under item 4, plat review, there were no plats for review at this time. Under Old Business, Steve informed the committee that the LAWCON/LCMR Grant submitted, had been ranked seventh out of ten projects. Steve informed the committee that after discussion with the Metropolitan Council and State Planning Agency, that our particular. grant would not be funded for 1984. With this in mind, Steve submitted a request for approval of purchase of the lights and the rest of the amenities to light both fields at Aronson Park, and it was approved by Council. The lights have all been ordered as of Monday, and the poles had been ordered as of Tuesday. Steve is in the process of working with N.S.P. to update the power transformer in the park. This project is expected to be completed within the month. Steve also informed the committee that his trip to Kansas City for the National Convention had gone very well. Steve informed the Committee that he had attended many very informative sessions which have already proven to be successful in Lakeville. . Under New Business, Gerry Grenz informed .Steve that the phone box in Valley Lake Beach was unlocked and the potential of vandalism was evident. Steve would inform the maintenance department and have this taken care of immediately. Kathy Lewis asked for information on the MRPA conference in November. Steve informed her that the main brochure had not been mailed yet and should be in the office shortly. A11 information would be distributed to the committee members whenever it was received. It was brought up also that the committee members had not seen the Park and Recreation agenda in the paper. Steve informed the committee that the agenda would be in the paper every week from this date on. Steve informed the oommittee that he had received ski grant approval for $3,500.00 for 1983-84 grooming season. Gerry Grenz also suggested-that the ski trails and snowmobile trails were too close `on the north edge of Ritter Farm. Park.
