PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES
JUNE 29, 1983
7:00 PM
Roll Call: Storlie, Norden, Lovelace, and Grenz were present.
Cramer, Lewis and Olmsted were absent. Park-and Recreation Director,
Steve Michaud, was also present.
The first order of business was the approval of the June 1, 1983
Park and Recreation Committee minutes.
83.32 It was moved by Grenz, seconded by Storlie, to approve the minutes
as read.
Motion. passed.
The next order of business was the Park Director's report. Steve
reported to the committee that most of the major development projects
were still being halted because of wet conditions.
Purchase and installation of playground equipment at several sites
and the seeding of Jacquard Avenue are all on the "wait" status .until
the areas all dry out. Steve explained that maintenance was going well,,
that we had all of our CETA crews on and much work is being completed.
.Steve also explained to the committee a few problems with some of
the beach areas. relative to parking and large crowds due to the heat.
Some emergency "No Parking" sign installations have taken place and
staff will be ready to handle the large crowds over the Fourth of July
weekend.
The next item on the agenda was review of the Lakeview Heights sub-
division. Steve reviewed with the committee a letter from David Licht
explaining the situation and updating the plat. Steve explained the
litigations involved with the City and the developers and the previous
recommendation from the Park and Recreation Committee about a year ago.
83.33 After a short discussion, it was moved by Grenz, seconded by Storlie,
to re-confirm. the Park and Recreation Committee's original motion made
approximately one year ago to recommend to the City Council that a cash
contribution be accepted to satisfy the park dedication ordinance require-
ment.
Motion passed.
Item number five was a review of the Council actions. Steve explained
to the .committee that all the recommendations committee had made at the
last meeting, including concessions, vending machines, park dedication fees
resolution and the planning of Jamaica Avenue had all been okayed by the
City Council and were moving along just fine.
Under new business, Steve updated the committee relative to recent
meetings with the Lakeville Athletic Association pertinent to installation
of athletic lighting on fields one and two in Aronson Park. The committee
will be updated as .this proposed project continues through its planning
stage.
Under old business, Steve had sent in the packages to the committee,
four letters .suggesting names for Jacquard Avenue Park. Steve suggested
that since Olmsted and Lewis were not present at the meeting and both
chaired that committee, that we would wait until the next meeting before
reviewing the suggested names.
83.34 There being no further business, it was moved by Norden, seconded by
Lovelace, to adjourn the meeting.
Motion passed.
Respectfully submitted,
• Gerald S. Michaud
Parks and Recreation Director
