PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
MAY 6, 1981
7:30 p.m.
Roll Call; Lovelace, Miller, Cramer, Storlie and Lewis were
present. Park Director Steve Michaud was also present.
Item number two was the approval of the April 15, 1981 committee
minutes.
81-26 It was moved by Storlie, seconded by Lovelace to approve the minutes
as read.
Motion passed.
Under the Park Director's report, Steve gave an update on the
maintenance projects:
Steve reported that he had not heard anything from the attorneys
concerning Jacquard Avenue Park, and assumed that the negotiations were.
going on and he would report to the committee as soon as he had heard
something.
Steve reported that several citizens had called from the Jackson
Heights area wondering whether or not the tot lot was going to be devel-
• oped this year.. Steve explained that the final grading and hauling of
black dirt has been completed and the installation of playground equip-
ment and the volleyball court will begin as soon as possible.
Steve reported to the committee that the Valley Lake Beach develop-
went is going well. The 50' X 100' docking system has .been constructed
and installed into the lake. Final touches for the completion of the
beach will be done along with the other two beaches some time at the.
end of May..
As of these minutes, Steve reported that the Park and Recreation
Committee, the Natural Resources Committee and the Planning Commission
have approved. and recommended to City Council, specifications and concepts
for the development of the Orchard Lake Beach restroom facility. After
this meeting on Monday, May 4, City Council also approved the specifica-
tions for the bid date. Bids will be opened on May 24, and hopefully
Council will award the bids that evening. Steve reported that the Clivus
Multrum restroom facility has been delivered and will be ready for instal-
lation once the building is complete..
Under item "B", Steve reported that the ribbon cutting ceremony in
Valley Park along Cedar Avenue and Ritter Farm Park went well. Thanks
to Sandy, many bicyclers and citizens were around for the ceremony.
Steve also added that C.E.D., the engineering. consulting firm, was
• still, working on feasibility study on a trail from downtown Lakeville to
the .High School. Steve will update the committee as soon as these reports
become available.

Under item "C", Steve mentioned to the committee the possibility
of attendance to an MRPA citizen board workshop. Two or three members
were interested but were going to check their schedules to see if they
were available during that time and that date. Interested committee
members are to call Steve by the end of this month.
Under old business, Steve told the ,committee that all the bids had
been received and the low bid. by U.B.C. was accepted for the n w Antlers
Park picnic shelter. Building materials should be in in the n xt month,
and hopefully the pavillion will be up by the end of June. St ve informed
the committee on the update of the Renaissance Festival. Stev mentioned
that the reconsideration by Council was now being .considered..
Continuing under old business, Kathy Lewis asked several uestions
with regard to the CETA Youth Program, lifeguard salaries and ome of
the recreation programs. .Steve explained the various programs in the
CETA Youth Program and also explained the lifeguard salaries a d how our
youth programs would work this summer. Steve also informed th committee
that Council had approved a proposed youth busing program this summer
that was presented by the Youth Advisory Committee. Steve and or Sandy
would meet with the Youth Advisory Board to work out the detai s.

committee adjourned.

A SPECIAL NOTE; The second. meeting of May has been cancelled, as
have the rest of the second monthly meetings through August. The
first meeting of June, which is June-2nd, we will meet at 6;30 p.m.
at the: Council Chambers for a proposed bus tour of the .park .system.
Committee members, council members and other committees interested
in this trip are also welcome.
