HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-15 CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARK .AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING APRIL 15, 1981 7:30 p.m. Roll Call: Cramer, Lovelace, Storlie and Kennedy were present. Lewis and Miller were absent. Park Director Steve Michaud was also present. Next order of business was approval of the minutes of the April 1, 1981 committee meeting, 81-22 After the minutes were reviewed, a motion was made by Storlie, seconded by Lovelace to approve the minutes as read. Motion pawed. Under the Park Director's report, Steve showed the committee concept plans of the proposed picnic shelter to be located at Antlers Park. Steve went on to explain to the committee that the proposed shelter was going to be approximately 30' X 60' in size with a cement pad skirting around the outside of the .pad.. The structure would be made of wood and • is proposed to have .two open barbeque pits at both ends. Steve also brought up the idea of having some type of a divider which could divide the shelter into two halves, being able to accomodate two small picnics. The divider could also then be removed to accomodate one large picnic. Steve explained to the committee that Bud Alich was now taking quotes on the approximate cost of .wood to have it built ourselves. Presently the estimates are coming in around $10,000.00 for the total project. Steve went on to explain that the Lakeville Jaycees would be assisting in the funding and the construction of the project. 81-23 After further discussion, it was moved by Cramer, seconded by Kennedy to approve the concept preliminary plan as outlined by Park Director Steve Michaud for the design installation of a picnic shelter at Antlers Park. Motion passed. Under Item B of the Park Director's report, Steve showed the committee two different concepts of the proposed rest room facility at Orchard Lake Beach. Steve explained the building would be approximately 16' X 16', constructed of block with a decorative brick-off-block exterior. Steve reminded the committee of the Clivus Multrum sanitation system that will. be installed under the building. 81-24 After further discussion by the committee, it was moved by Cramer, • seconded by Kennedy to approve the concept plan as outlined by Steve Michaud for the rest room facility at Orchard Lake Beach. Motion passed. Park and.Recreation Committee minutes April 15, 1981 Page -2- Item C, Steve reported to the committee that he had telephoned Bob Sandeen, Dakota County engineer, to discuss the project of painting a solid line along Cedar Avenue from 160th Street to the new elementary school. Mr. Sandeen has stated that they would get this project painted when their painting resumed a little later in the spring. Item D. was an update of maintenance projects. Steve informed the committee that all major projects to date are going well. All the dock sections for Valley Lake Beach and the raft had been completed and were awaiting installation. Many miscellaneous projects gearing up for our other beaches and park projects are also going well. Under Item E, Steve brought up the setting of a date for a ribbon cutting ceremony dedicating our new bike trail in Valley Park and the establishment of Ritter Farm Park trails into the National Trail System. The committee chose Saturdays May 2nd or 9th, or Fridays, May lst or 8th as potential dates. Tentatively the first Friday in May, May lst, has been scheduled for this. Item four was a review of the bicycle trail comprehensive plan. Steve informed the committee that he had met with Jim Johnson from C.E.D. and that they had driven around to all the potential locations for a trail going from Lakeville out to the High School. The Lakeville City Council has allocated $500.00 for C.E.D. to complete the feasibility study for the installation of such a trail. The main intent being to come up with facts and figures and costs so that the application .can be prepared and submitted to the Minnesota Department of Transportation for the funding. .Steve will keep 'the committee updated as to the progress of this report-. Under old business, Steve informed the committee that no new appli- cations had been received to date for the open `position on our committee. Steve was going to put the ad in the paper one more week before he began to search for a person. Continuing under new business, there was discussion concerning the meeting dates for upcoming Park and Recreation Committee meetings. It was. suggested by Jeff Cramer that starting in May, the Committee meet once a month and this would continue. through the month of August. All committee.. members concurred with. the idea. Steve added that one meeting a month through the summer would be sufficient. If there were a need to meet, then the second Wednesday of each month would be used to complete .any business that may be necessary. • • Park and Recreation Committee minutes April 15, 1981 Page -3- 81-25 It was then moved by Cramer, seconded by Storlie to eliminate the second meeting of each month, starting in May and ending in August.
