HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-02 CITY OF LAKEVILLE PARK RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES August 2, 1978 7:30 P.M. Answering roll call: Trued, Storlie, Cramer, Lovelace, and Smith, who would be a bit late. Rice was present but left to represent the committee at the Orchard Lake Comprehensive Plan review. Approval of minutes. Addition of the word `for' under motion 78.58, 4th paragraph, 2nd sentence should read; In addition, a tank truck is being asked for in conjunction with the street department which will be used all year for general maintenance. 78.61 Motion by Trued, seconded by Lovelace to approve minutes as corrected. All voted aye. Acting Chairman Cliff Trued welcomed new committee member Jeff Cramer. Park Director began his report: Several citizens have called requesting an area to shoot bows and arrows. Steve mentioned that two possible locations existed; Bunker Hill and Aronson park. Steve asked to meet with some committee members to visit both sites and make a recommendation to the city council. Aronson park septic system will be installed starting Monday, August 7th. All parts to the grinder pump have been delivered. 1979 LAWCON application has been submitted to the State. Steve will keep the committee informed of the progress. Steve discussed the 1978 -79 snowmobile grant for $7,400.00 and the ski grant for $12,780.00. Steve recommended both to the committee for approval. He explained further that the snowmobile grant was a., simple 10 increase over last year. The ski grant is considerably larger for the following reasons; There has been a tremendous increase of skiers using our trails which in turn has increased maintenance. The total system has gone from a 6 kilometer three years ago to more than 30 kilometers. Steve has included the cost of developing a larger parking lot at Ritter Farm park and the National Ski patrol equipment and safety equipment is also being requested. 78.62 Motion by Storlie, seconded by Lovelace to recommend to council that the application for snowmobile trails at $7,400.00 and the ski touring appli- cation of $12,780.00 at a 65% 35% match, the majority of the 35% to be made up of volunteer labor by both clubs, be submitted to the Department of Natural Resources. All voted aye. Motioned passed. Park Director went on to inform Valley Park committee members that the bridge at Bunker Hill had been vandalised to the point where the bridge had to be removed. Steve explained that the replacement of the bridge was a high priority budget item. He further suggested that the bridge be replaced as soon as possible and would look into doing so before the budget for 1979 is approved. 0 A letter was read from the L.A.A. stressing the need for the proposed hockey rink site at Dakota Heights. This item has been requested for the 1979 budget. Steve went on to mention a proposed request to the army reserve for some heavy equipment work. This will be discussed by council at their next meeting. Plans have been made to begin the installation of five soccer fields and three to four football fields at Aronson park. Work will begin August 7th. The Comprehensive Plan was discussed. Several ideas were talked about including park classifications, future park locations, etc. Steve will prepare a package of pertinent information to assist committee members with their work. This item will remain on the agenda for the next three or four meeting until all areas have been completed. There was a short discussion on the Vinland Center committee progress. Steve reported that he has had bad luck with bringing together the sub committee on bike trails. It was decided that the next meeting would be in a month or so. It seems that everyone is very busy this time of the year. A meeting is being arranged between committee members, park directors, and school officials of Apple Valley and Lakeville to discuss the pro posed trail from Valley Park to the new elementary school. 78.63 Storlie moved to adjourn.
