WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28, 1976
MUNICIPAL BUILDING AIRLAKE INDUSTRIAL PARK
Chairman Nelson called the meeting to order with Nelson, Lange, Lovelace,
and Trued answering roll call. Enright, Christoffers, and Lamont were absent.
76.4 Trued -Lange made and seconded the motion to approve the minutes of
the meeting held January 14th. Motion carried.
Committee was made aware of the change in Council meeting dates to
two regular meetings monthly- -the first and third Mondays, (except in February
the 2nd meeting will be February 17th, because of the legal holiday on Monday.)
This change will bring about a change in Committee meetings, also. They will now
-)rdinarily be held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. A
hoped for change in these datings will be a more easily- arranged agenda.
Mr. Walter Sternberg, an Orchard Lake resident, who lives on Co. Rd 44,
Klamath Trail, near Wayside Park, was present and asked for time to inform the
Committee of what he has done to improve his lots and his plans for them. He
believed that some of these lots were most suited for purchase by the City,
especially to supplement Wayside Park. Chairman Nelson thanked him for his presen-
tation and said the Committee would b e looking at it this s pring.
Park Rec Director Steve Michaud gave his report. It concerned, (1)
Dodd Trail pleasure skating rink is now in and being maintained, (2)
Bike Trails' Committee has had their 1st meeting and plans have begun. The nex t
meeting will be Tues. Eve, Feb. 3rd, at 7:30 PM, Municipal Building at Airlake,
(3) the planning for summer programming has begun, (4) Possibilities of Kenreel
Av. skating rink, asked for Mrs. Pieri and other Lakeville Hills residents, have
been explored. It is the policy not to place heavy City equipment on ponds. The
ownership of one of the four concerned lots could not be determined, since the
Realty Co. who did have it, is not in existence any longer. The City would be
reluctant to clear this area with snowblowers, also, because of insurance liability,
in case of an accident to a skater. Mrs. Pieri was advised that other residents
in the area, with equally as large snowblowers, might be willing to clear the snow,
and (5) YMCA is holding off in its swimming plans for day campers in its Orchard
Lake area. They wish to make some developments on their land this year buildings,
etc., (6) The Dakota County Municipal Parks' Assn. will be holding a tour this
coming Satuday, beginning at Minnreg, at 1 PM January 31st. Lakeville Parks
Committee and S. Michaud will be the hosts. The program will include a talk and
slides, presented by Steve, then an actual tour, on skiis, of Ritter Farm Park. The
entire Committee is urged to come.
L. Nelson reported that the Oak Shores skating area on the pond is
operating very successfully.
(=There was a discussion on possibilities of establishing and maintaining
a speed skating track in Lakeville.
There was an inquiry about the status of pools and surrounding land in
Valley Park. The ownership of some parts of this land has not been fully established
because of bankruptcy filings that are still in progress.
Chairman Nelson has an appointment to meet with Planner Dave Licht.
Implementation of capital improvements program will be discussed, amongst other topics.
