LAKEVILLE PARK RECREATION MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 14, 1976
MUNICIPAL BUILDING AIRLAKE INDUSTRIAL PK
Answering roll call at 8 PM were Chairman Nelson and Members Enright,
Lange, Trued, and Lovelace. Christoffers and Lamont came a few minutes later.
76.1 Motion by Enright -Trued to approve Dec. 10th minutes, with addition of
words "Rev. Trued would be developing a list of people not "has a list
in the 4th paragraph. Motion carried.
The P R members discussed the Council meeting minutes of Dec. 15th and
29th. They decided there was no directive from them in either set of minutes.
Dennis Anderson, Valley Park Boy Scout, was introduced by Pastor Trued.
Dennis presented a petition of between 100 and 125 signatures of residents in the
immediate area of Dodd Trail Park, who are asking for a City maintained pleasure
ice- skating rink. The petition was the result of a house -to -house survey. Pastor
Trued extended his thanks to Dennis, the Boy Scout Troup, and everyone who has
helped in this survey.
76.2' Motion to accept the above petition presented by Valley Park Boy Scouts,
was made by Trued- Enright. Motion carried. (Petition is filed with this.)
76.3 Trued motioned that "a pleasure- skating rink be installed in a suitable
place, in Dodd Trail Park. Christoffers 2nd. Motion carried.
It was further stated that Dennis and the Scouts would be willing to main-
tain the above mentioned rink. P R Director Michaud explained that hockey scheduled
time requires that the hockey rinks be given priority for maintainanee, but that the
pleasure- skating rink would be cleaned. If the Shuts wished to go ahead before City
equipment got there, it would be all right. However, snowfall of 3- inches, or more,
could be readily cleaned by use of City equipment.
Park Rec Director Michaud gave his report. It dealt with: (1) matter of
forming agendas, (2) Walter Sternberg, Orchard Lake 'resident, wishes to come to next
P R meeting and discuss land he has for sale near Wayside Park, (3) YMCA now feels
they will be having more campers in their summer program and is requesting more
swimming time at Orchard Lake Beach. Michaud has suggested a secondary beach at
Orchard Lake Park, also, for their consideration, present winter program explained,
(5) ice skating areas at Oak Shores discussed. (Chairman Nelson stated that the
pond -area, rather than the present rink, was more widely used by skaters,) (6)
summer programming will soon be started, (7) American Youth Hostels, Lakeville Chapter,
has now begun.
Mrs. Pieri, Lakeville Hills resident, and two of her neighbors,, explained the
need for a skating rink in their vicinity. At present, there are no park activities,
but there are more than 100 children. She submitted data and figures she had collected
on lots she felt might be considered for skating purposes. S. Michaud will explore the
possibilities.
D. Christoffers explained Council action on tennis court planning. (An excerpt
from Lakeville Times is filed with these minutes.) The tennis courts will become an
actuality, more than likely.
Chairman Nelson asked each member to go over parks assigned to them and come
to next meeting with items for them. If they have no suggestions for their park
assignment, bring items for other parks
N. Enright and D. Christoffers are appointed as a sub- committee to research
