PARK RECREATION SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, July 22, 1975 4
V.F.W. Hall
RE: Coordinating Snowmobile and Cross- Country Ski Trails
Present were: Tom Smith, Ben Broom, Butch Lutgens, Leone Hammer of
the X- Country Ski group
Jerry Clay, Kenny Maxa, Charles Hess, Jim Galloway, Bill
Stackhouse, Joe Doerfler, Lloyd Vinge, John
Baumgartner of the Snowmobile Clubs
This was the third meeting on this matter-of separation of trails for
the respective sports of Cross- Country Skiing and Snowmobiling. The
following proposal was agreed upon by all those present.
PROPOSAL
That the Snowmobilers continue to use the 'told trail" across Lake Marion,
proceed under HWY #35W and across "west" Lake Marion, exiting on the
Bartelds property (along south side of Minreg Rd) to Judicial Rd., hence
along Judicial Rd into Scott County:
(Trail width is considered to be from 25' to 40t)
Two questions were paramount:
1) Who is to post trail?
The Snowmobile Clubs will mark their own trails, but all groups
would look to the Park Recreation Committee for Signs, and per
hapsSign money, and for aid in marking trails.
2) Hoer do we control snowmobilers from-leaving trails?
The idea was expressed that developing the new trail early in the
season would assist with control, so that snowmobilers wo get
"accustomed to and acquainted with the new trail. Suggestions were
made to mark trails clearly, to get publicity out about the new-
trail.
There was understanding that Snowmobile Trails would cross the
Ski trails at one or two places at right angles.
RECOMMENDATION
Than the proposal be accepted and recommended to Council for adoption;
That subsequent to Council adoption, the Park Recreation Committee
help publicize the new regulations assist in implementing the
proposal.
That further study be made with respect to the perimeter trail around
Ritter Farm Park with view.towards alternative trail for' snowmobilers.
