HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-09 LAKEVILLE PARK RECREATION MEETING WFXNESDAY APRIL 9, 1975 LAKEVILLE MUNICIPAL BLDG. AIRLAKE Meeting was called to order by Chairman Len Nelson at 8 :00 P.M. with all members present: Nelson, Enright, Lamont, Lovelace, Christoffers, Lange, and Trued. Three Lakeville High School students, interested in local govern ment and making applications for summer park jobs were present and were welcomed. Motion to approve the minutes of the March 26th meeting was made by Trued, seconded by Enright. Motion carried. Minutes of the Council meetings of March 17th and April 7th were reviewed. L. Nelson had attended the April meeting and reported on same. Park Director Steve Michaud was present and gave his report. Summer ball leagues and scheduling of games is going well with Fields 1 and 2 at Aronson Park completely scheduled. Approximately 320 people are registered at this time. "Cost figures and percentages as to who is to do what and when's at Fishing Bridge is being settled. The State is going to fence the entire area and grade and landscape the parking lot. The pathway and fishing dock remain to be decided upon. A copy of Summer Program 1975 is filed with these minutes. There will be 3 days each week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with planned things to do, at each of three parks, Antlers Park, Orchard Lake School, and 167th St Park. Monday will be Activity Day, Wednesday will be Arts and Crafts, and Friday will be Special Events Day. It is planned to utilize two buses and have boat, canoe, swimming lessons and races -also nature hikes at Ritter Farm Park. There will be a track and field event day and special trips, planned for Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Sundays there will be outdoor concerts arranged. On June 8th, Hall Bros. Jazz Band will be playing. Plans are being laid for 2 teenage dances, and possibly square dances, also Pan- O -Prog dance. 82. Motion by Christoffers, 2nd by Enright, to recommend to Council that the entire Summer Program 175 as proposed by Park Director Michaud, be accepted and authorized, with no costs deleted. Motion carried. Pastor Trued presented a map of Valley Park and reported on suggested names for parks in this area that had been suggested by Bi- Centennial Committee, school children, and himself. (Map and sheet of recommendations accompanies these minutes.) There are seven parks in all, so numbered on the map, and these are the suggestions: #1, Hunker Hill Park; #2 Fairfield Park #3 Dodd Trail Park; #4 Sleepy Hollow Park; #5 Independence Park; #6 Park View Park; and #7 possibly Lagoon Nature Center -but #7 naming was tabled at this time because ownership is not certain or that it will be a nature center. Mrs. Phyllis Joyade and Mr. Lane Esswein, of the BiCentennial Committee were present, interested in the park naming. 83• Motion by Trued, seconded by Enright that the above list of names for parks #1 through #6 be submitted to City Council for their approval. This is a "guide line to try to control activity on the lake, not to destroy our recreation :Michaud, 84. Lamont made motion, seconded by Nelson, that speed limit for skiing on lake be no more than 35 mph in the speed zone; water skiing can be entered from certain areas from 10 A.M, to sunset; permit access to and from speed zone while towing skiier in the water except in area of restric- ted use- -these are recommended to Council and concern Antlers Park area, Bassett's area, and west side of 35W. Motion carried. 85. Nelson made motion, 2nd by Lamont, that the following sub- committee chairman schedule be put into effect; Budget Enright also Nelson) Athletics Lamont Maintenance Lovelace Comm. Adv. Council Trued Trail Plan. Christoffers Rep. to Dak. Co. Parks Lane Motion carried. 86. Motion to revise park assignments as follows, by Nelson, 2nd Lamonts Trued for Ballinger Christoffers for Erickson Lange for LeRoy Motion carried. It was suggested that the first meeting in May be devoted to ,budget priorities. Tentatively, there will be a special meeting on Wednesday, April 16th, for joint meeting with Administrator Hogan, possibly 8 P.M., for discussion and explanation of procedural time line schedule for rezoning and conditional use hearings in the City of Lakeville- -each Committee member is to bring questions they wished answered to this meeting.
