PARK RECREATION COMMITTEE
MAY 26, 1971
Members present: John Jones, James Emond, Herb Lambert, Pat Bresnahan,
Martha Erickson, Larry Austad.
The meeting was opened at 8:10 p.m.with the reading of the minutes. The
following correction was made, no recommendation was made in regard to
purchase of equipment due to lack of quorum.
The Orchard Lake committee stated that junior and senior life saving
classes could be taught by Kathy Bolan at Orchard Lake Beach. A request
was made for beach improvements and beach life guards. A motion was made
by Pat Bresnahan, seconded by Herb Lambert that a recommendation be made
to open the beach from June 15 to August 15, and that necessary repair and
equipment be provided: a chair for two life guards (one senior and one
junior life guard :on duty from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) telephone, police
protection and a satellite.
In regard to the lights for the tennis courts, Central Telephone Co. will
donate poles and installation. A motion made by Herb Lambert, seconded by
Pat Bresnahan that the Park Recreation proceed with contacting the school
as to electrical rental and to approach the Village Council with the lowest
bid for installation. All bids must be in before June 7, 1971.
Mr. Larry Frank from D.H. Gustafson Co. presented park plans for seventy
acres. A motion made by James Emond, seconded by Herb Lambert that a
boundary survey and topography survey be made as:,.soon as possible.
A motion made by James Emond, seconded by Herb Lambert that the chairman
contact the Mayor to set up a special meeting to discuss preliminary park
plans.
Naming of the seventy acres was discussed and tabled until a future date.
Hockey program was tabled.
Gene Jacobson presented the proposed park donation in block one and two of
Malmangers sub division. A motion made by Pat Bresnahan, seconded by Larry
Austad that Park Recreation Committee reject proposal. It was recommended
that lot 8, 7 and proposed park in block one of Malmangers sub division be
considered.
Father Rowan and Vic Kohlnhoffer inquired of future plans for a teen center.
Martha Erickson presented the Drup Action Committee proposal to School Board
for use of school facilities, and asked Park Recreation Committee for their
support. This plan would only involve activities for the summer. Discussion
followed and Park Recreation Committee will take under advisement to look
into youth center. Pat Bresnahan will obtain information on the "Lighted
School" project. A motion made by Pat Bresnahan, seconded by Herb Lambert
to recommend that the Village Council help, participating in terms of funds,
the Drug Action Committee's summer project that was proposed and accepted by
the School Board. (Copies of proposal are attached)

The office of Local Urban Affairs survey was tabled to be discussed with
Village Council at special meeting.
Pat Bresnahan will meet with someone to check over the donated Crystal Lake
park area.
Buss Weierke brought up and it was discussed the possibility of bussing for
open swimming at the pool. No action was taken.
Motion was made to adjourn at 11:00 p.m.
