HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-28 PARK RECREATION COMMITTEE April 28, 1971 tlembers present: Larry Austad, Pat Bresnahan, Jim Emond, Martha Erickson, John Jones, Herb Lambert. The meeting was called to order at 8:15 p.m. with flag pledge, and secretary's report after touring park areas with Earth Day Student Committee. Earth Day has been set for May 6, 1971. Jim Emond made the motion, seconded by John Jones that all park equipment be delivered and placement staked out by May 5, 1971, the Marrinan Park mowed to make ready for cleanup, projects will be completed by students according to slips made out on park tour, a maintenance man is requested to accompany students and assist with projects. Ray Anderson representing the Hockey Coaches suggested maintenance of hockey rinks be reviewed at this time for planning purposes. For the Village to assume maintenance, the rinks will need cleaning and sweeping each day and flooded once a week. In regard to the high school hockey program, the Board of Education would like to meet with the Village Council to work out possibility of joint maintenance since the public would use the school rink. John Hrkal requested recreational skating area for Orchard Lake. Pat Bresnahan made the motion seconded by Herb Lambert the Park Recreation Committee pursue the maintenance of hockey rinks by looking into the existing equipment and the cost of needed attachments, also enlarging the Villages skating facilities, and to look into possibility of purchasing goals for the hockey rink. The hockey committee stating volunteers would assemble the equipment. Pat Bresnahan will check into the Village maintenance equipment as what additional needs are. Nl Johnson made the made the motion, seconded by John Jones that the Village Council maintenance department add sand,fill and parking standards according to the plan submitted by Orchard Lake Improvement Association. The Park and Recreation reguested the Orchard Lake Improvement Association look into the Possibility "Uf arse organized swimming program before the Park and Recreation Committee makes any other decisions on Beach changes. If there is to be a swimming program at Orchard Lake, the Orchard Lake Improvement Assciation would provide volenteers to assemble all equipment. Pat. Bresnahan made the motion, seconded by John Jones that the Village Council look into the possibility of acquiring the George Fischer property adjacant to the Orchard Lake Beach. Old business: Jim Emond will check the costs of installation and purchasing of poles for light of Tennis Court area at High School. Jerry Clay will assist Jim Emond in checking cost of satalites for Park areas. Concerned citizens of the Crystal Lake area requested leveling and grading of {park area land, also back stops for a baseball field with possible seeding in the fall. Volunteers will maintain and erect equipment. rierb Lambert made the motion, Al Johnson seconded, recommend Village check with Jerald Spande as to dedicated area,level and grade area and provide back Stops. April 23, 1971 Page 2 Herb Lambert amended, seconded by John Jones, that also to make acquisition for play around equipment for this area. The Crystal Lake residence requested some one of them to be present to layout ball field when maintenance graces and levels land. Jim Emond made motion, seconded by John Jones the Village Clerk submit a monthly statement of financial status to Park and Recreation Committee. The Ritter property was tourer; prior to meeting and area was discussed as to possible park land. Herb Lambert made.,mption, seconded by John Jones that the Park and Recreation Committee recommenc' to council to look into the acquisition of the Ritter land as to future Park development and to simultaneously apply for Nub and State funds.
