HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14 a PARK RECREATION COMMITTEE April 14, 1971 Members present: Larry Austad, Pat Bresnahan, Jim Emond, Martha Erickson, John Jones, Al Johnson, Herb Lambert. The meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m. with flag pledge, and secretary's report. Gary Wick's requested assistance from the Park Rec. Committee to improve the existing tennis courts at the Lakeville High School. The present two courts received heavy usuage during the past summer months. Many people were unable to use courts in the evening because of darkness. It is requested that the Village erect lights and pay for the electricity to operate them. The school will provide the lights, while the poles and installation, extending wires, and automatic timed switch should be provided by the Village. Pat Farrell will be contacted in regard to feaseability of this request. Cheryl Walker presented the students program for Earth Day. This will follow the same format as last year. Jr. High students cleaning along the highway, Sr. High students involved in individual group projects, painting, repairing and raking of parks and equipment. Also 8000 trees will be planted by the students. The students requested specific needs of the Park Rec. Committee but would like to do something extra to make parks more beautiful rather than general maintenance work. Bottles and cans are also being collected. Jim Emond made the motion, seconded by Martha Erickson that the Village work with the school to have the present unasembled park equipment dispersed at the proper parks and staked out as to placement of such equipment. This equipment will be assembled as an Earth Day project. Earth Day is tentatively set for May 6, 1971. Park Rec. Committee will meet at 6:00 p.m. April 28, 1971 to tour present park areas. Student Earth Day Committee will accompany Park Rec. Committee to determine park clean up needs. D.H. Gustafson Assoc. from Bloomington was interviewed in regard to park lay out plan for the 70 acre tract. Herb Lambert made the motion, seconded by Pat Bresnahan that Mr. Gustafson submit proposal contract of site and years as soon as possible to be submitted to the Village Council by April 19, 1971. Pat Bresnahan made the motion, seconded by Herb Lambert that the Civic Recreation Association ,approach the school in regard to use of the Little League Field at Orchard Lake school Jim Emond made the motion, seconded by Pat Bresnahan that the Park Rec. Committee accept the presented list of responsibilities. Pat Bresnahan made the motion, seconded by Herb Lambert that Larry Austad become Park Rec. Committee Vice Chairman, no other nominations, Larry Austad is Park Rec. Committee Vice Chairman. Park plans tabled until next meeting. Capital outlay'tabled until next meeting. *ARK RECREATION COMMITTEE April 14 1971 Page 2 Pat Bresnahan made the motion, seconded by John Jones providing the school will allow the placement of two rest rooms at the school and one rest room at the J.C. Park from May 1, 1971 until August 15, 1971. Ray Henry was appointed supervisor of park maintenance. Larry Austad will contact Civic Recreation and will keep Park Rec. Committee informed of Little League. Village acquired two warming houses which can be painted Earth Day. Park Rec. Committee should look into possibility of acquiring Casperson property through tondemnation. Herb Lambert made a motion, seconded by Pat Bresnahan the Park Rec. Committee submit to the Village Council for approval the lawyers final draft of the snowmobile ordinance, and recommend the Village Council send a copy to the State Department of Conservation.
