Following tour of old
village area parks which began at 6 P.m. P dk A
Committee called the meeting to order at 8;20 P.M. in the Municipal Bldg. Len
Nelson was Chairman and all members were in attendance Lovelace, Erickson, Lamont,
Enright, LeRoy, and Ballinger, Chairman Nelson.
Mr. Martin M. Kane, resident of Valley Park, had been waiting for the
meeting, also had another meeting to attend -so the Comm. gave him the floor. He
is a member of a discussion group consisting of adults and youth which has been
meeting regularly in Valley Park. They are attempting to find "something to occupy
the youth, something useful -not as yet solidified Mr. Kane is interested in
"funding for a youth center and he has a written report received by him just
today which states there will be money available in this seven county area, *funds
for acquisition and construction probably not avail able for three months Openal
institutions have first choice but wishes P R Committee to be aware of these
funds and Valley Park's need. Meanwhile he was advised to seek more help from
use of .facilities in Parkview School. Jim Ballinger, Committeeman from this area,
was asked by Chairman Nelson to be director to ''interface with Dane group and act as
liason. Lamont and motion. Unanimous decision.
Minutes of previous April 24th meeting were read by Martha Erickson. LeRoy,
Enright moved and'2nd their approval. Motion carried. Directions were given that
copies of minutes be forwarded to members of Committee, Stephen Johnson of Lakeville
Park $turfy Group, and Peter Martin, Co- ordinator- -also copies of Park Study Group
minutes be forwarded to members of Committee, the last met of minutes to Lovelace,
Lamont and Ballinger, who currently do not have them. Copies of April 17th joint
meeting of Planning Commission, P R, and W/S are to be sent to all P R Committee
except Erickson, who has a copy.
Nelson gave report of Lakeville Council meeting, as affected P R.
Recommendations of purchase of sign machine and snowblower have been approve4 also
approved were P R recommendations regarding both Logarto and 4 -Star Additions.
Member of Council, has asked that P R, look into a trail system for Lakeville similar
to ones in Burnsville and Apple Valley.
Jim Robinette had been on tour of parks earlier in evening and given his
report at that time. Materials are to be cleared away from "bay" area, work is
being done to existing facilities, mostly, to get theta in use sanitary facilities
may be in use much sooner than had been expected, at Antlers Park,
Mr. Peter Martin presented an outline of summer recreation. He questioned
the use of pavilion,.scheduling and rental, chairs and tables, He was told he could
use what was there. Advisory committee should be consulted.
Discussion followed over what are suitable hours for supervision of beaches
at Lake Marion and Orchard Lake, this upcoming season. Lamont made motion beach at
Antlers Para be open 1 H4 to 10 HI. Ballinger 2nd. Enright amended hours be from
10 AM to 10 amended all beaches be open from 10 AM to 10 PM.
Enright ?,std. Voting aye were Enright and LeRoy; nay were Lovelace, Zriokson, Lamont,
Nelson, and Ballinger. Amendment denied. Lamont withdrew original motion and moved
that LakevUle�s supervised beaches be open from 10 AM to 9 FM. LeRoy 2nd. Wri,ed
unanimously.
Mr. Martin asked if there were suggestions for additions to his outline,
and received several- -also he was commended on having submitted a good program for
recreation for all age groups.

A list of Lakeville parks and what equipment and facilities is in each
is asked for next meeting.'
A petition organized by Mr. and Mrs. Steven 0. Schultz, signed by 26 families,
asking for the removal of Terrace Park warming house, was presented. Erickson motioned
this warming house should be removed and not replaced at this time. Lamont 2nd. Carried
unanimously. Erickson will notify the Schultz'. Erickson reported the back -stop at
Terrace Park is unsafe buckles outward with sharp wires. Robinette is to be
asked to have it repaired.
Lamont wished to know what should be given priority at Aronson ,Park
1.. second access to park?
2- Possible development`of full -sizq baseball diamond? Where?
3- location of sanitary facilities? Pavilion?
Cost figures on tennis courts will be discussed next meeting. Erickson will
help Robinette on this. Is it more feasible to have two double courts, one location—
or single courts in several locations? Also next meeting will be Park Study Group
and WIS representative, plus Engineer.
Nelson and LeRoy moved and 2nd that N. Enright be representative on Community
Advisory Council. Motion carried. The next meeting of this Council will be at 10 AM
Key 18�h.
Motion to adjourn meeting by LeRoy, 2nd by Enright. Motion carried.; Time;
31:15 PM.
