Highview Hills
Item No.
The Spotlight on Business program is designed to recognize new and existing commercial and
industrial businesses in the Lakeville community. The program is also designed to emphasize,
for residents, the important tax and employment benefits that business and industry provide to
the community.
Highview Hills will be featured at the August 2 City Council meeting. Economic Development
Commissioner Tom Smith will present the information on Highview Hills and Housing Director,
David Smith will be present to accept the award.
Highview Hills is a full - service senior living community located at 20150 Highview Avenue that
opened last October. The facility is owned by Walker Methodist, a locally- owned, faith - based,
non - profit organization serving seniors since 1945.
Highview Hills is Lakeville's only senior living facility to offer a full continuum of care including
independent living, assisted living, memory care, and care suites.
As Lakeville's largest senior living facility, it has a wide variety of amenities for its residents
including a movie theater, putting green, salon, bank, event center, and a unique chef's
"exhibition kitchen" where meals are prepared right in front of the residents during meal times.
Another unique amenity is their fitness center, where they employ a full -time fitness specialist.
They utilize equipment made in Finland that is specifically designed for seniors.
Residents in Highview Hills come from all across the country to be near friends and family.
Occupancy for Highview Hills is already exceeding projections from when it opened.
Also an active member of the business community, Highview Hills works with the Senior Center,
Lakeville Area Arts Center, Chamber, Rotary, and Lions.
Highview Hills provides a substantial job and tax benefit to the community. The Dakota County
Assessor has assigned an estimated market value of over $17.6 million to their property. Based
on current tax capacity rates, this market value will result in an estimated contribution of just
under $250,000 in local property taxes going to support the City, Dakota County, and
Independent School District 194 in 2011.
In addition to the tax base, Highview Hills currently employs 85 people in Lakeville.
