PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER 2010
AS SENIOR CENTER MONTH IN LAKEVILLE

Senior Center Month is celebrated nationwide during September. This celebration aims
to increase public awareness of programs and services available for mature adults aged
50 and over and encourage participation in Senior Center programs. This special month
honors senior citizens and senior centers for assisting seniors by utilizing their
experience, skills and knowledge and enabling their continued contributions to their
communities. The Lakeville Senior Center and its members are a great asset to
Lakeville.
Ted Billy, President of the Lakeville Senior Citizens Organization, and Doreen Machin,
Secretary, will be present to receive the proclamation. Staff is requesting City Council
consider approval of a proclamation establishing September 2010 as Senior Center
Month in Lakeville.
Proclamation
Whereas, mature Americans are significant members of our society,
investing their wisdom and experience to help enrich and better
the lives of younger generations;
Whereas, the Lakeville Senior Center has acted as a catalyst for mobilizing
the creativity, energy, vitality and commitment of the mature
residents of the City of Lakeville; and
Whereas, through the wide array of services, programs and activities, the
Lakeville Senior Center empowers Lakeville citizens aged 50 and
older to contribute to their own health and well-being and the
health and well-being of their fellow citizens of all ages; and
Whereas, the Lakeville Senior Center affirms the dignity, self -worth and
independence of mature persons by facilitating their decisions
and actions, tapping their experiences, skills and knowledge and
enabling their continued contributions to the community.
Therefore, the City Council of the City of Lakeville, hereby proclaims
September 2010 as
Senior Center Month
and calls upon all citizens to recognize the special contributions of
the Lakeville Senior Center participants and the special efforts of
the staff and volunteers who work every day to enhance the well-
being of the mature citizens of our community.
