MONTHLY REPORT
ARTS CENTER Tom Barnard
SEPTEMBER, 2010
• The Minnesota Photography Club held its September meeting at the LAAC on Thursday,
September 2.
• Giant Step Children's Theatre began rehearsals for its fall show, Pinocchio, on Friday,
Sept. 10.
• The Dakota County Library's Mosaic Series opened with the Sutter Brothers Show on
September 11. The free event, paid for with a Minnesota State Arts Board Grant,
focused on Minnesota Immigration.
• Applause Community Theatre began rehearsal for its fall show, Our Town, on Monday,
September 13.
• Saundra Trom Corliss art exhibit opened in the lobby gallery on Thursday, Sept. 16.
• Sophie Reed concert at the LAAC on Friday, September 17.
• 6,000 people attended the Lakeville Art Festival Saturday and Sunday, September 18
and 19. The theme this year was Art Naturally.
• Fall art classes resumed the week of September 20, including adult pottery, adult
painting, youth homeschool classes, kids pottery and weekend workshops.
• The Apple Valley Police Department rented the classroom for a five -week parenting class
beginning Sunday evening, September 18.
• The Minnesota Valley Photography Club held a special class /meeting on Thursday,
September 23.
• Expressions Community Theater began rehearsing its fall production, Mind Over Matt, on
Tuesday, September 28.
• The Wine Academy Series started with Single Malt Scotch Tasting on Wednesday,
September 29.
UPCOMING
• Contemporary paintings by Glenn Quist will be on exhibit through November 29, 2010
• Folk Duo, Patchouli, is performing at the Arts Center on Saturday, October 16, 2010
• The award - winning Bill and Kate Isles are on stage Saturday, November 6, 2010

• Attended P -O -P debriefing meetings
• Reviewed applications and tested applicants for vacant Park Maintenance II position
• Awarded contract for King Park Fields #7 & #8 Irrigation Project
Maintenance of Buildings, Park Facilities & General Grounds
• Installed pedestrian bridge and poured sidewalk at Orchard Lake Beach spillway
• Installed seed, straw blanket and fertilized swale at Chadwick Park
• Installed concrete around rip -rap at Highview trail section
• Backfilled and seeded sidewalk at Orchard Lake Beach pedestrian bridge
• Inventoried interior door locks in buildings to determine appropriate locking function
• Repaired wash -outs in Zweber Woods Conservation Trail
• Dug trench in ditch near the NE corner of Aronson to improve drainage
• Repaired playground equipment at Cherryview Park and roof leak at North Park
• Slit- seeded Antlers Park near shelters and volleyball courts and repaired horseshoe pits
• Removed downed trees at Ritter Farm Trails
• Greenway boardwalk repairs
Turf - Related Maintenance
• Applied fertilizer to soccer decks / starter fertilizer around shelters - building Antlers Park
• Repaired goal creases at Casperson Soccer Fields
Athletic Fields
• Layout of soccer game fields at North Park; scalped and striped fields
Trails
• Repaired Willow damaged trail north of 192 between Dodd and Ipava
• Repaired depression in trail on north end of Oak Shores Park
Signs
• Installed Juno Trailway signage and Ipava Wayfinding signs
Beaches
• Removed beach buoys and stored for season
Special Events
• Set up and tear down for Lakeville Area Arts Center Festival, "Who Done it Hike ", Miracle
Field Groundbreaking and Apple Jack Event
STS
• Repaired goal creases at North Park soccer fields
• Cut and cleared trail for Haunted Forest
• Power - washed swim buoys and stored
• Willow removal along trails and at Casperson boat launch
• Cleared vegetation and debris at Shady Grove Greenway
• Removed excess vegetation at Rolling Oaks near culverts

o "The Clutter Danger Zone," presented by Home Instead Senior Care
• September was Senior Center Month. The center celebrated by adding some new
programs:
o Cooking 101 for Men Only
o Cooking Around the World
o Morning Stretch
o Gentle Strength Mix (exercise class)
• Thirty seniors went on a trip to Morton, MN to game at Jackpot Junction.
• Twenty -six Health Angels club members biked to Target Field to enjoy a Twins game.
Over 40 Health Angels went on their annual overnight biking trip to Lanesboro.
• The Knights of Columbus dinner was held this month, with approximately 100 seniors
attending. A member's grandson gave a piano performance for the diners.
• After taking a summer break, the senior chorus, creative writing class and sewing circle
have returned and are anxious to get back on schedule.
• The new cooking classes went over very well. Several participants of the Chinese
cooking class immediately signed up for the next session, which will be a three - course
French meal.
• 24 new members during this time period. Total membership is 993.
