ORDINANCE NO. 633
CITY OF LAKEVILLE
DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 5 OF THE
LAKEVII~LE CITY CODE CONCERNING
DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DOGS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEVILLE ORDAINS;
SECTION 1. Section 5-1-1 of the Lakeville City code is amended by adding the
following definition:
DANGEROUS DOG: Any dog that has:
(1) without provocation, inflicted substantial bodily harm on
a human being on public or private property;
(2) killed a domestic animal without provocation while. off
the owner's property; or
(3) been found to be potentially dangerous, and after the
owner has notice that the dog is potentially dangerous, the
dog .aggressively bites, attacks, or endangers the safety o_f
humans or domestic animals.
SECTION 2. The caption to Section 5-1-9B of the. Lakeville City Cade is :amended to
read:
"Dangerous and Potentially Dangerous Dogs. "
SECTION 3. Section 5-1-9B(2) of the Lakeville City Code is .amended by renumbering
it as Section 5-1-9B(1).
SECTION 4. Section 5-1-9B of the Lakeville City .Code is amended by adding. new
subparagraph 2 to read:
2. Ownership of dangerous dogs within the City, with the exception of ownership by
a public law enforcement agency, is subject to the following regulations:

a. The requirements of Section 5-I-9B(1), subparagraphs a, b, c, and a are
also applicable to dangerous. dogs.
b. Warning Symbol: All owners of dangerous dogs within the City- shall
display in a prominent place on their property a warning symbol approved by the
Minnesota Commissioner of Public Safety to inform children that there is a dangerous
dog on the property. In addition, a similar symbol is required to be posted on the kennel
or pen of such animal.
SECTION 5. Section 5-1-9B, subparagraphs 3 and 4 of the Lakeville City Code are
amended to read:
3. All potentially dangerous dogs must be registered with the Lakeville Police
Department. All dangerous dogs must be registered with the Lakeville Police Department
within 30 days after the effective date of this Section.
4. It shall be unlawful for the owner of a dangerous or potentially dangerous dog to
fail to comply with the applicable requirements and conditions .set forth in this Section.
Any dog found to be the subject of a violation of this Section shall be subject to
immediate seizure and impoundment.. In addition, failure to comply will result in the
revocation of the license of such animal requiring the immediate removal of the animal
from the City. An animal that has been removed from the City pursuant to this provision
may not reenter the City.
SECTION 6. Section 5-1-2 of the Lakeville City Code is amended to read:
LICENSE .REQUIRED: No person residing in the City. shall own, harbor or
keep a dog over six (6) months of age within the City unless a current license for
such a dog has been obtained as herein provided.. It shall be unlawful for any person to
permit to remain about his premises any dog for which no license .exists and for which
one is required. The fact that no license tag is attached to the dog's collar shall be
presumptive evidence that the dog is unlicensed. A dangerous dog must have a
standardized, easily identifiable license tag .identifying the dog as dangerous and.
containing the uniform dangerous dog symbol affixed to the dog's collar at all times.
SECTION 7. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its passage and
publication.

DANGEROUS DOGS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKE-
VILLE ORDAINS:

for comparable space: $15.42 per column inch.
(2) Maximum rate allowed by law for the above
matter: $15.42 per column inch.
(3) Rate actually charged for the above matter:
$11.52 per column inch, 1st week and $10.94
per column inch, successive weeks.
